Worse for who?

I gave you a 1 day temporary ban. Typically, if you continue to violate forum rules we will escalate to a 3 or 5 day ban, and then to either an exile from this forum (CCP and its subforum Venues), or a permanent ban from all of 2+2, depending on the conduct at issue.

Bobo gave you a 10 point infraction. Once you get to 100 infraction points you are automatically permanently banned from all of 2+2.

I did not override Bobo's infraction (though I did not know about it until you posted here). My 1 day ban was supplemental to it.

Generally speaking, Lattimer and I are given fairly free reign to moderate our forum in the way that we see fit, as are all the mods in all the other fora here. Bobo and Mat are mods in all fora, and provide some level of oversight. I suspect he won't read these posts, however, so you may want to msg him directly, or post in ATF, if you wish to complain to him.

If you don't want to read my PMs, that is your choice, but it makes it pretty likely you'll continue to do things that will cause Lattimer and I to exile/permaban you. Choose wisely.

For the record I posted above as Denish was posting so you can delete it if you wish. Also why the f can't I respond to mods in private dms. This would cause less disfunction (like dickcase) getting into it.

Can mods read other people's private messages?

I have no idea why you can't respond to PMs. You should be able to. You've certainly been able to send me PMs. If you're reading a PM, at the bottom of the message there aren't buttons for Reply and Reply to All?

No, mods cannot read other people's PMs. We can only read our own.

Bobo and Mat, as site admins, may have the ability to read other people's PMs, but I highly doubt they do (or care to) in all but very exceptional circumstances.

Bobo and mat are you able to read other people's PM. If so that seems very detremential and I'd even go as far to say illegal.

Well, I received your Test PM, and just responded to it.

Okay well it does not show up that it went thru from my end.

This is a waste of time but to confirm I am not lying you can create a new account, send your mod a dm to the account you created, try to respond to the mod account with the new one, and see it doesn't show up....if that makes sense.

Just to be clear, you know that when you click on your messages, it brings you to your Inbox folder, which only contains the received messages - and all messages you send are put in the Sent Items folder, which you need to select to view, right?

To Lattimer/Dinesh and whoever else, on behalf of the rest of the thread, I want to thank the mods for clearing that garbage out of there. Maybe if you guys stopped posting your crap in that thread the mods would stop deleting it and stop handing out bans.

It's rather a fluke I decided to pop into this thread today - I haven't done so for months. Actually, not really a fluke I guess - I was inspired to by Dopey's actions in another thread, and I wanted to see if he had posted here.

Dopey, to address the infraction & ban - those really come from different styles of modding. I tend to use escalating infractions, sometimes with tempbans if the infractions don't seem to be making a difference, and 100 points results in a permanent ban. Dinesh and Lattimer use escalating tempbans, which eventually lead to an exile from this forum, or a permanent ban. They're not the only mods that do this - several of our forums use this. I do very little day-to-day modding in this forum; I'm primarily on the list for anything dealing with advertising in these forums. Once in a while, when I see obvious stuff that I think should be dealt with right away I'll do so, as was the case with your post. As Dinesh said, he didn't see my infraction when he banned you, but even if he did and decided you also needed a one day ban, I'd be absolutely fine with that. He and Lattimer are the guys dealing with this stuff every day, and know better what needs to be done. There's discussion going on right now via PM on how to deal with all the derails in that thread, and I expect there will be some tempbans and exiles handed out, and I would imagine you'll be part of that. I support them 100%.

I get that you seem to think that your posting there is just fine and that the mods are the problem. I can assure you that we are receiving multiple post reports about that thread, and many of them are about your posts. If you don't like that you can't continue a merits of face mask debate or moderation discussion in that thread, perhaps you should stop posting in it. The mods aren't the only ones who don't want it there.

As for the viewing of other people's PMs, I can answer that. Illegal? Um, no. Are we able to? The only way I can, and I believe it's the same for Mat, is to change your password and log in to your account. You would know if that happened, because you wouldn't be able to log in. Of course I suppose there could be other reasons you couldn't log in, but the point is we can't log in to your account without you knowing that *something* has happened. We can't see your current password, so there's no way for us to restore it and hide our tracks. In my ~10 years in this role, I've only done this a few times - with the member's permission to allow me to verify they were the owner of an account they had lost access to. I've never done it without their permission, and don't expect to be doing so at any point, although I suppose there could be some reason we might need to, like uncovering a scam.

It is just that jibber jabber makes light of an actual serious loss of live poker. It WAS a subforum of this one, but also had a main forum tab in addition to the subforum link here. It looks like the new owners removed the subforum link. If you were used to accessing Venues via that link then I could see the confusion.

Yeah, it threw me for a loop too. Since it's no longer a subforum of this one, we may eventually have to be more explicit about the rules in that forum. But I was planning to hold off on worrying about it until all their other changes rolled out, in case it ended up being a moot point.
