No, this is what ruins threads. For transparency, this is what Dopey and bruce got a 1 day ban for, after I had recently been warning people multiple times in the thread about things. These were 15 straight posts within 3 hours.

I would just like to say for my part (as I received a temp-ban myself for saying, in response to a question about what measures would be effective at MGM to contain the spread, that cases in FL had increased since casinos re-opened there - where masks etc. were used) that the line between "CV/MGM" and "CV generally" is not easily drawn and the two overlap considerably. When I got the ban I actually thought it was because all CV was disallowed, but now that I see from dinesh's post that that isn't the case. Just something to keep in mind. I am certainly no troll, just trying to have a productive discussion to help MGM open safely. Thank you.

Appreciate your post DT. Yeah, we've been trying to get the right policy dialed in over time, so it's been changing slightly as events happen and the world changes as well.

It is not a crystal clean boundary, but I hope people will be able to get it right.

If you're talking about something specific to your Venue or Community, and not just a global CV observation that could be posted in any venue's thread or in the general forum, that's probably fine to post in a Venue thread as long as you meet the other normal posting guidelines.

If it's a general CV observation, argument, criticism, etc., it can go in the CV containment thread, as long as it's not falling afoul of one of our general forum rules. As a general example, arguing about whether health/safety or community economics are more important is not something that is specific to a single venue, and belongs only in the containment thread. Same with arguing about whether masks are useful or not or other general, non-venue specific arguments, which is where your post got caught up IIRC.

If you feel the need to bring politics into it, or if (like the above nonsense) you just want to troll another user, or if you want to violate one of the other general forum rules, then don't bother, it doesn't belong anywhere in CCP and it will be deleted.

If your post contains elements from more than one of the above categories, things will get tricky, but we're most likely to treat the whole post in the most moderated way because splitting your content up or selectively editing your post is both time consuming and less transparent. So you'll want to be careful if you decide to venture into these waters, or roll with it if we end up moderating something.

We try not to be hair trigger about these things, and I will personally sometimes let a marginal post slide at first, but if (as unfortunately often happens) it inspires someone else to disagree, and then the whole conversation devolves into opinion, argument, and name-calling, or if someone in the community reports the post, then obviously the whole thing is going to get swept away and warnings or worse will be issued if needed.

Sorry I never replied to your PM, I meant to. I was getting increasingly frustrated by the 3 other posters in that series of posts and just temped everyone involved. You were barely a guilty party in that instance and I almost reversed the ban, but since it was just a 1 day I figured it wasn't a huge deal. <this was something from 1-2 weeks ago, for those reading>

As someone who follows and want to ely on information in each venue thread, dopey is not reliable with the information he adds. Most recently he said as fact that the mgm poker room would open the day the state allowed, with no references. Obviously that was a lie.

Couple that with his trollish behavior, and he's lucky he was only day-banned.

1. Never replied to PM to wrongfully banned person

2. Getting frustrated because of it

3. Admits He shouldn't have banned him yet was too lazy to remove ban

As usual dinesh puts it more eloquently than I. It carries a lot of similarities to the topic of tipping. You can get some good mature posts, but then it almost always turns into ethical arguing, attacks, shaming, etc. As a result we unfortunately end up having to remove the good posts too because leaving them just continues to bait the bad posters, and so we create a containment thread for the topic.

Thank you. Also, when I logged in the next day and saw I had been banned the message under "reason for ban" was: "you know why."

But I honestly didn't know why (lol) and had to think about it for a while before I surmised it was the referenced post!

Anyway, thanks again for clearing up. Also, if we have "permanent records" on this site, I would still appreciate the record of my 24-hour ban being lifted so I am not considered a "repeat offender" in the future, should I ever (somehow, doubtfully) run afoul of forum rules "again" - that is, if this is possible.

Thanks for the clarification. Seems from Lattimer's post that the issue in my case was a bunch of trolls flooding the thread with nonsense in response to my post, which may or may not have crossed the line. But I will keep this in mind going forward.

Well, it's not for general chatter, or for discussion of cash games. It's for containment of general coronavirus discussion and arguments that we don't want to happen anywhere else.

So bobofett dms me saying i have 10 out of 100 points until perm ban. Then this kid Denish straight up bans me and msgs me something (btw i did not read). So why and when did Denish become head mod and over ride bobofetts ential msg to me. It was settled at that point, Denish is now making the situation worse.
