Rumor mill is circulating that Burroughs and Chapin is very actively looking at the options of building a large casino at the old Pavilion site in Myrtle Beacfh, and other casino/resort options for the old Myrtle Square property. I have heard this from about 4 different sources, two of whom are employed in high level jobs with B&C and will remain anonymous. Supposedly, a great deal of money has been paid to some lobbyists in Columbia and D.C. to get gambling of some form legalized in SC within the next year or two, so we will all see how this plays out. It does make some sense though, as nothing has ever been announced for these two properties, so this just adds to speculation. I just hope if it comes to fruition, it won't be another Harrah's Cherokee without poker or true table games.

Cross your fingers. I've lived in upstate SC all my life, and lived in Myrtle Beach for two years.

True, B&C, along with Myrtle Beach Farms have a lot of pull on the coast, but a casnio in SC?

I hope it pans out, but trust me, it have A LOT of opposition!

It would save me the 11 hour drive to Atlantic City or the cross-country flight to Vegas. Mississippi got 'em, so who knows?

In March of 2005. I was at Harrah's in Cherokee. I am sure they told me they were currently putting in a poker room at that time, and it would be open in a couple of months. I wonder what happened.

I seem to remember something about Governor Easley demanding too much money from the tribe.

I was told today this is still in the works, they are waiting to see what the state does with the home poker bill in the works, they have delegates in their pocket, and this will come true according to one of the head marketing directors within B and C. He said it may take a number of years, but within 5 years, there will be large casinos in MB.

Hurray. I'll finally have a good reason to use my brother's condo/house in Ocean Isle

Of course, if all goes well, Kentucky will beat S.C. to having casinos in-state. Now, let's hope both states' casinos actually have poker!

Has there been any more development in this story? I live in Charleston and still haven't heard anything about Myrtle beach getting a Casino. Seems like it would be a good place for one though.

South Carolina is right in a sweet spot that should be perfect for profitable casinos, especially poker. If you map out legal poker in the US, there's just nothing north of Florida, east of Tunica, and south of AC or WV.

Also it would be a little comical if two of the most conservative states in the US, MS and SC, both embraced casino gambling.

Man, I hope so. I live upstate and would love to see it. It would really help our winter season.

The golf capital and the poker capital would be nice.

The ultra conservatives and religious right in the upstate will fight this HARD. I hope it works out. I won't get my hopes up, after the disappointment of Harrahs Cherokee and North Carolina not being able to work out a deal for table games.

The only infor I have recently, and this is good info, is that the failed Hard Rock Park is going to sell out to the Indians and possibly tear down the park. An expected visitation of 30,000 only saw about 2,000 and they are really looking to sell, and SC owes the Indians ground. They are talking of building a casino, which right now will only hold a Bingo hall, but will expand to poker when the bill is passed within the state. As for now, there are still home games here in communist state of SC, and they are very loose and easy!

Although be careful, because Ciaffone or someone has written occasional articles in Card Player about someone in SC, perhaps the AG, making examples of home poker games. The silly thing is that by statute, any games with cards or dice are illegal in SC. But seemingly they're not going after the Monopoly or canasta players.

Also, FYP. I don't think many people in South Carolina are advocating "a socioeconomic structure that promotes the establishment of an egalitarian, classless, stateless society based on common ownership of the means of production and property in general," (Wikipedia), even though most of the population would do better economically.

I also heard indians may be buying the hard rock park area. Even if they do it wll be a LONG time before there are active casinos and even then they may not have poker. We can always dream though. I may hve to pack it up and move to Tunica before that happens.

Please, Please, Please let there be casinos in Myrtle Beach. That would make some of my golf trips to meet up with fiends 4 times a year be soooo much better.

Fingers crossed

Also looks like the casino coming to South Carolina will be located in North Carolina.

DC has nothing to do with it, but ask yourself if you think the SC legislature and Governor are going to bring casino gambling into SC and put it in Myrtle Beach.

Oh - just noticed this is ten years old - seems right.
