I'm headed to Vegas in about a week. I've been there once before, but was only a lowly 1/2NL player and just carried around 1000-1500 in my pocket. This time, I'm going to be playing some 5/10NL and want to take ~10k. What's the best way? To me, this seems like to much to just take out in cash. What are my other options, or am I just being paranoid?

That amount should be no problem.

You are taking your Glock, correct?

I just got back from my first trip to Vegas and at least some of the casinos do have lockboxes so you don't have to leave with money. I did anyway but the way I dress, ain't nobody robbin me. If anybody puts me on having more than 35 cents, they deserve my money.

Staying at Harrah's, and probably playing at the Bellagio and/or Wynn. I might play the $2500 Venetian ME on Sunday.

I think his intent was to get your location and rob you.

I always choose a room with an in-room safe. You can also reduce the bulk of carrying around your roll in your pocket by using a few high denomination chips instead. You are less likely to spend those in places where you shouldn't!

You can carry 10k in your pocket. That's small change.

I got one of these
http://www.rei.com/product/617988

It goes under your shirt and pants, and in the small of your back it is surprisingly unobtrusive and not uncomfortable. But I was not carrying as many hundreds as you, so I can't say if the bulge would feel different. I think I was carrying $4K.

If you don't want to carry cash, you can wire the money to the cage. Just contact either B or Wynn for details.

don't use the safe in the room. get a box in the poker room. there was a thread on here during the world series i believe where a guy had 30k in his room safe and he was robbed while he was out. 10k is not an amount of money that you want to get stolen form you.

Is there some kind of law about having over 10k in cash with you? Like if you are flying you need to declare it? Just curious.

Good question. I hadn't even thought of anything like that. Now I'm curious too.

If you are traveling outside the US, the US wants you to declare if you are carrying more than $10,000.

Inside the US, no such restrictions.

Not saying a suitcase of money won't draw the attention of the TSA screeners, but there is no restriction.

Any details on how I do this? Do they just have these in the poker room? How much does it cost to rent them?

Getting a box in the poker room may be tough. But if you're a hotel guest at Harrah's just ask at the front desk for a box (I often did this when checking in and stashed cash before heading up to the room for the first time). The Harrah's boxes are set up right behind the hotel check-in with private little rooms so you can put stuff in and take stuff out in privacy (as opposed to the boxes at The Orleans, for instance, that are just in the cage where everybody can see you moving things back and forth). They're free unless you lose the key.
