You're talking about people who bend up the corners like civilized adults. We're talking about squeezers.
Pay attention to how people squeeze cards and you'll see it. They hold the cards lengthwise in front of them, push their fingernails in the center of the card, pull the edge of the card up starting from the middle of the long side then move to the corner.
That's where those marks come from. Done enough times they become two creases about a half inch apart, 1-2 inches long, lengthwise. Players often blame the machines for them because they look so consistent between cards but I see them in tournaments where they have never been in a machine.
If the first card is a 7 they lose interest and just peel the corner of the second card, if it's an ace they'll squeeze the second one super slow and hard hoping their ritual will conjure another ace. It might actually be a usable tell so it's worth watching for if there's a loose squeezer at your table.
Machine marks from the Deckmate 2's are two wear lines running the length of the card the short way, or little slices on the long edge. They look like someone took scissors to them and just cut a 1/8" bit. If they stay in use the cut gets longer or one edge of it peels back.
