Wouldn't bother me at all. Paying for drinks with chips is the norm - I've almost never seen anybody not pay with chips at the table. The timing was simply bad for the winner here, but the losing player did not order a drink for the purpose of going south $10. He also doesn't precisely control when the server comes by for his order or how long the beer takes to arrive, and he certainly does not make the server wait for him to finish the hand.

I get the mathematical technicality, but socially? Don't make a fuss here.
