BTW, a Queen song came on the radio in the car the other day. I quickly changed it, explaining, "I'm so SICK of Queen right now!", expecting to need to defend my actions...but my gf agreed! I was so pleasantly surprised.

I'd say about 90% of our tournament playerbase plays 4 nights a week with a good chunk of them also playing the daytime tournaments. You'd think by now they'd understand that once antes start they don't stop until the tournament ends yet we do this same dance every night where they look at me like I'm speaking Latin when it's time to ante. I'd gotten to the point where I would ask for antes once then after a few seconds I'd announce "take as much time as you need folks, I'm not in any hurry." That usually got them moving.

Luckily we just started a big-blind ante in our room for tournaments, now I only have to ask one person for an ante every hand instead of ten...

I played a tournament at a local competitor and one of the dealers just sat there with his arms crossed if someone didn't ante. Made me not play there for about a year (I don't have to play there). Just do our job and prod people. Yeah, it sucks but it's what they're paying us for.

How does this guy have a job?

I knew a dealer who would do this.
He would also change up antes and make them right before pitching a card.

He's not dealing anymore.

All of our tourneys are big blind ante. This is possibly the greatest upgrade to poker since the card shuffler.

For those that work in a room that have this, if the blinds are 500-1000 with 1000 ante, how does your room handle the situation of a player in the big blind who has only 800 tournament chips?

I said big- blind ante when I meant to say button ante. They switched it to avoid running into that scenario.

Our room: Ante first. He can only win back his 800 this hand.

I assume that the button who can't afford the full ante is only entitled to win his 800 back and nothing more?

If the blinds were 500-1000 and the button-ante was all-in for 800 I would assume he could win 800 from every player that enters the pot, just like any other player who goes all-in for less than the big-blind.

I haven't run into that situation yet but I'll ask when I go in tonight.

As frustrating and annoying as it is to have to tell the same people to ante on every hand - the same people who play this tournament every.single.day. - I would never cross my arms and just sit there silently and wait for them to do so. The worst I've done is make an innocuous comment about people taking their time while the clock is running.

I don't follow what you mean about changing up antes and making them right before pitching a card. Anywhere I've worked that's standard procedure. If someone uses an oversize chip for an ante, you get change and make it right before pulling all of the antes in to the center and dealing the cards.

Our room blinds come before the ante, so he/she could win 800 x the amount of people in the hand and that hand would just have no ante. I think that system is stupid as in a pre-BB ante tournament his/her ante would have to go in first, but as I understand it that is how the WSOP will be doing it as well (which doesn’t protect it from being stupid obviously).

Mothers Day was Awful... and the two days that followed were equally awful. Stiffs, terrible people... I've been hitting the bottle pretty good this week.

Gotta love the Promo Staff ... Poker room is at one end of building.

Week 1 ... "If your ticket is pulled you have 2 minutes to arrive and claim your prize."

Week 2 ... "If your ticket is pulled you have 4 minutes to arrive and claim your prize."

?? Week 1 the 'claim point' was at the complete opposite end of the casino ... a mere 3 min and 24 second walk at a brisk pace.

?? Week 2 the 'claim point' was moved to the center of the casino!! GL

They solved that issue in our poker room by simply not piping the announcements into our speakers. Wouldn't want someone to get hurt rushing down the escalator!

We can hear the announcements loud and clear from the EDR for some reason, though.

No speakers, but the Poker Room is required to put at least 1 TV on the 'Promo Channel' whenever there's a drawing going on. They typically post first names and card numbers. As soon as someone claims the prize it's back to Judge Judy .. GL

Made my first big mistake dealing last night. Slightly traumatizing but wasnt absolutely horrible.

2/5 and theres a raise to 120$ and folds to a guy who's tanking. I'm about to get tapped out so I tell the dealer a couple things going on with the shuffler since it was acting up. I only turned for a second or two but when I turned back around I see the guy tanking had chips out. Idk why but I thought he went all in and there was a call.

End up putting out flop turn and river before the guy who called says "uh what just happened?".

Didnt realize the caller had about 70$ behind his hands that I didnt see. In the moment I thought he was all in and tried to be fast so I got ahead of myself. Floor comes over corrects the situation and the original raiser shoves anyway. Caller folded. Nobody made it a big deal luckily. Since it was the same flop nothing really changed but it was still an extremely awkward lesson.

Don't give information while seated at the table. Give information as you are getting up from the table. That way that situation will never happen.

Finally happened.

Playing 1/3 NL, I'm in the SB.

2 limps to me, I look down at AA.
Before I do anything, the BB raises to 21.

Well, of course, I just call the 3 and hold him to the raise. It folds around to me, and I 3bet to 70.

It felt kind of wrong actually doing it, definitely like I was taking advantage. But, that's the rule, so, it is what it is, right?

Seems to me like BB should have waited until you acted if what you did was going to change his action. So it's fine, unless you conceal your cards in order to induce this situation.

Nope, cards not at all concealed.

He didn't do it intentionally, it was just a mistake.

I think not taking advantage of the situation and just raising normally puts you in such a bad spit that you are pretty much forced to take advantage. Your hand looks so strong by raising that you might as well limp reraise.
