I think I might have to switch back to Table Games if I want to get my foot into Vegas from out of state this time of year, as there are just so many more open positions for that.

Also applied to some in Florida on a lark, but not sure if I even want those gigs, most of them are in high COL areas.

Excalibur and Mirage for table games are hiring. Good luck making a good living out of those places.
Aria is hiring poker dealers.
If you wanna eat anything besides ramen noodles every week, stay away from Downtown.

It seemed like tons of places had openings for Table Games, which makes sense, the departments are huge compared to poker. I did apply at Aria, that was the lone MGM property that was hiring for poker. Yeah, I've heard some less than stellar things about downtown, but I have a fair amount of savings, I just want to get my foot in the door in the area.

It was just a conversation starter.

Yes, it is a circuit stop for one of the tours. And it will be a mixture of tournament and cash.

I don't know the break schedule but I expect it will be reasonable in that regard, just long days.

I'm not super worried about it but I know it won't be easy, and I was wondering what would be the most difficult thing about it, as a new dealer.

You're gonna be lousy because you're new, not because of the 12 hours. Don't sweat it. They KNOW you're new. Their expectations are the same as mine.

True enough.

That said, the 12-hour days seem like more of a mystery than the being-new problems I know I will have.

Dealing because you play every hand to the river. When playing even if you're completely aggro you still fold pre sometimes and can check out mentally for a bit.

Depending on the definition of ‘good’ I’d disagree. Playing good is difficult. You have to process a lot of information to know what the best play is. Dealing doesn’t involve many decisions if at all.

I think it’s actually an interesting discussion but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Agreed. When playing, I start to mentally check out at around 6 hours, and it's even tougher if it's at night and I am getting tired. When dealing, I am constantly moving and getting tired is never an issue unless I got basically no sleep the day before. Just give me a few breaks to get some water and fruit and I can easily deal 12 hours quickly and without mistakes.

Just set a record which may never be broken:

Called two string bets on one street.

do 5card PLO games ever run with more than 6 players in the US? what's the protocol on running it twice if there's 8 players dealt in?

Protocol will be room dependent. In my room if 8 players are dealt in and they want to run it twice preflop we simply burn one card and put up two boards without any other burn cards.

We call Floor for action out of turn in a tournament. Don’t stop the game, just alert them that it happened.

I announce “Out of turn on table xx”.

There’s a beat.

I again announce “Out of turn on table xx”.

Supv from not so afar says, yeah, I heard you.

“Yes, but this is same player, same hand.”

Just every day in Maryland.

More than eight players, can still do one flop, multiple turn / river combos.

Might need to (gasp) use the last card.

How many cards are in those MD decks?

BTW I believe the correct response to players who want to run it twice in a Hi-Low game is send them to another casino.

Okay, I'll bite.

9 players each get 5 cards. That's 45.
1 burn and 1 flop is 4 cards. That's 49

How are we doing 2 turns and 2 rivers even if we don't burn?

The three rooms I'm aware of in my area that run Big O...

One room will only seat 8. When they run it twice they just do one burn card and then run out two full boards. Another room won't run it twice at all.

And another room seats 9 but whoever is on the button has to sit the hand out and they'll run it twice (one burn card, two full boards).

Has anyone here have any experience working at Pensacola Greyhound Track or Creek Entertainment in Gretna?

I've played in Gretna several times when passing through. Small room, most times I was there they had 2-3 poker tables going with 1 table game as part of the rotation. It's fairly remote, a ways out from Tallahassee. Didn't even know there was a poker room in Pensacola.

Biloxi has some great rooms.

I've played in just about every room in Florida. Pensacola and Gretna are two of the rooms I haven't played in.
