I used to use PhotoBucket to post a screenshot. That died, and I'm not signing up for another photo-hosting service, when Twitter is right there.

Don't bother following me, you'll just unfollow by the end of the week. Nobody I know is on Twitter, they're all on Facebook (I'm old). I don't talk about politics on FB, so my twitter is partly to follow a few writers I like, so I know when they've posted a new piece--but mostly me being a filthy liberal.

There is zero poker content on my twitter. All my poker thoughts go here.

(As I typed this, I got a notification that I picked up another follower, lol. That makes a about 7 today, lol. You guys are going to be pretty disappointed.)

ok so not sure that this needed a separate post, especially with the questions Ill be asking

Cash game.

One table breaks and a few players come to my table, I am dealing tonight not flooring, since the table that broke was behind me I knew one of the players was quite tilted, he is a reg who we all like and have never had a problem with before.

Reg is S.B. in this hand.

Mid Position raises preflop, button calls, SB shoves, both players call.
No action on flop or turn.
On river MP bets and button folds.

I call for showdown, they both look at each other and I motion slightly to the SB. He shows and MP mucks. As I grab for the mucked cards SB yells 'wait I want to see that hand'. I do not put it into the muck pile and call the floor, in our room we typically only allow this if player is suspected of collusion or cheating. Floor comes over and SB says "I want to see what he raised with" (meaning preflop before SB shove). Floor says no and I muck the hand. (SB also tried to argue "arent all hands face up for AI, that was squelched right away too). He was reaching for sure, and got real mad, yelled and screamed and shouted "Never coming back" "You never ruled like this before" and other things. I think the floor eventually calmed him down outside, we will see if he comes back.

Questions:
1. I knew the guy was tilted, and he is a really nice guy too, should I have mucked the cards even though he said wait, to avoid this conflict-because I knew what was coming- and just have him mad at me for not hearing him, done and done, maybe a smaller or no tip, but I doubt he would have exploded - I dont like this but it would have avoided a major blow out.

2. Is there any reason one should suspect the MP should have shown first? Am I missing something - I dont think so but have been wrong before.

I just felt bad because he is usually a real nice guy, and am trying to find how to avoid this in the future.

You did fine.

There are times where poker players are bound and determined to start a confrontation about something, anything, to give them a means to express their frustration with their lives.

Don't give it another thought.

This was all from "a really nice guy"?? I'd hate to see what the not-so-nice guys in your room act like.

Completely agree with quadstriker.

Also, he’ll definitely be back. The ones that say they’re never coming back almost always do. Sometimes the next day.

What is your rooms rule on who shows first? Do you go by position or last aggressor? Since MP bet on the river, he could be considered the last aggressor and have to show first, even though SB was already all in. But I've never heard of a room that did not allow a player who made it to showdown and tabled their hand to not be able to see any hand still in at showdown. The collusion requirement usually only applies to a player who did not make it to showdown asking to see a hand.

The record I've seen from storming out saying "I'M NEVER COMING BACK HERE" to walking in and buying in is ten minutes.

How much rounding is acceptable when calculating pot raises in a £1/1 PLO game?

A) why oh why are you spreading a 1/1 PLO game? In 1/1 I would expect no rounding, but since I've never seen it maybe you have a reason that would change my mind.

In other news: my room has successfully stolen almost all the games from our competition. We're raising the rake significantly. (It's been basically the same for 20 years, jackpot drop added (mid-high players stopped toking for a while, mostly recovered now) and time charge eliminated (minor impact to tokes)). We'll be raking no flop hands with a reraise but a single raise (regardless of limpers/callers) is free. I'm off for the first few weeks. What are the chances everyone has adjusted by the time I get back?

Has anyone dealt on a horrible layout (ie: the courtesy line practically goes to the bumper in a few places)? I don't blame the players at all for putting their bets where I can't reach them, I blame management and our union is on it... but Jesus Christ I shouldn't have to say it every round of betting!

I've dealt in rooms with and without a betting line. Im firmly in favor of no line. It makes my job so much easier and the game run so much more smoothly.

I didn’t always think so, but having worked in a room without a line the past 5 years, I am solidly on the side on no line now.

Also, I work in a room where we do not honor iwtsth in cash games if the loser does not want to show.

I once had a player tell me "I' never playing here again" and walk from where I was to tournament registration to enter the next tournament.

When you say 'record', that's the longest it's taken?

I once saw a guy refuse to move after the brush sent him to the wrong table (main game vs must move). He asked for the floor, shift, MOD, threatened to never come back, and then after about 20 minutes of this, moved over. Bobby's Breakroom - for gaming employee chatter + YTF appreciation. I am on the side of a pattern. Something not enough like a line for the nits to demand that the line be treated as a commandment, but enough substance that players generally have some idea where the betting area is, and if they don't providing an easy reference for a dealer who needs to explain it.

"Don't let that line fool you, sir--I can't reach that far," fits the pattern of "get them to understand we're on the same team here."

"I'd like to have a few words with the guy who drew that line," is a follow-up that reinforces the point.

I don't have a "never coming here again!" story...

...but every place I've ever worked has included a regular who made a point to say daily, "This is the worst sportsbook/poker room in town!"

(And yet, you keep coming back? Every day???)

PLAYER: What's the bbj here?

YTF: Quads or better--

ANNOYING KNOW-IT-ALL: (interrupting) AND you have to play BOTH hole cards!

YTF: (annoyed at the interruption) Other restrictions apply. See Rules for details. (sigh)

***

Player sits down in LL game, announces to everyone that he's never played poker before. They assure him the dealer will help him along.

I ask if he wants to post $3, or wait for his BB. He chooses to wait. He doesn't seem as confused by the question as most first-timers are.

His first hand sees a few limpers, so I'll have to explain what "Option?" means. I draw a breath to begin speaking, but before I get a word out, he checks.

Wow, this guy sucks at pretending he's never played before. Shoulda fumbled those chips a little when you took 'em out of the rack, pal.

He spent the rest of the down pretending not to know what streets were small bets or big bets. I didn't bother explaining anything to him. The other dopes at the table were happy to oblige him, any way--it gives them a chance to be the Smartest Kid In The Class, which is the whole reason they came, any way.

I should mention that this happened during a blizzard, in case any of you are thinking it's still possible someone might choose this night to hazard life and limb to drive to the cardroom by himself on a Monday to try this Texas Hold'em thing for the first time.

Have only dealt/played in rooms with a betting line, why do you guys prefer no betting line?
