The lady is obviously a good person who believes in taking care of the dealers. I would never feel comfortable taking advantage of a person like her by taking the money without first saying that I had gotten tipped already. She likely would have said "keep it" like the other guy did, but I would feel like I was deceiving her and taking advantage of her good will by not giving her that choice. Someone who is willing to give up $25 of her own money to make up for what she believes was you getting stiffed deserves to be treated with the utmost respect, as they are few and far between. Just my opinion, and I'm sure some would say you should drop any tip right away. But to me, it would feel like I took it from her under false pretenses.

I can't do this either. It's begging for a tip. I see dealers do it all the time. Not me.

I'm not a fan of this story, either.

WE'RE SELF-POLICING, EVERYONE! NO NEED TO TELL US DEALERS ABOUT HOW TILTING THESE POSTS ARE!

Clear tip hustling. What makes it even worse is that everyone at the table was telling the guy to tip and you’re tip hustling on top of it. Low rent AF.

Even keeled 'thank you!' for a day-making tip/ even keeled 'thank you!' for .50 cent tip.

Sometimes it's the pro player who tips $1 (which adds up to thousands of dollars a year out of his/her earnings).

Sometimes it's $5 from a $20 pot from a very generous, very 'just happy to be playing the game' guy.

Sometimes it's 50 cents from the guy who has a total bankroll of $40.

Generosity comes in different forms and I work at appreciating all of them, as well as not letting stiffs make me feel bad.

No one at the table should know by my response that one tip was any better than another. I took my training to heart.

Cool stories. Tipping belongs in another thread.

Do you guys get free food for Thanksgiving? We do and it actually isn't terrible compared to the usual EDR fare.

Myself and other coworkers got food poisoning from it one year.

My EDR had delicious food that I would have proudly served my family...fancy tablecloths, etc. It was the highlight of my workday. Took a gamble on getting here early for an E.O (It's also my friday). It did not work out....sigh.

Happy Thanksgiving Breakroom!

My first thought too. Interesting that his house allows dealers to keep individual tips that are given by tournament players. Poke, what happens if you deal the final table when the tourny concludes? Do you get to keep any tokes from the winner?

Just to be clear, this isn't a tipping discussion question, rather a poker room procedure question.

I was thinking one of two things.

1. He is not supposed to keep it. (For what it is worth many of my coworkers believe they should be able to keep their own tips in tournament..... They think they get tips because they are somehow special so they should keep theirs but share mine)

Or

2. They treat the high hand differently, but that creates a huge potential for abuse.

My fav Old School story: employees at The Sands would bring their families to eat in the EDR on Sundays. And the food was good!

Can you imagine?

Thanksgiving spread in the EDR was decent this year. The hot line (one swipe per day) had all the fixins along with the standard stuff, with good turkey all day in the free area.

There wasn't much work to go around so I only had one helping.

I'm in Canada so we had our Thanksgiving last month but I was surprised at how busy (compared to a typical Thursday) we were. I was NOT surprised how short staffed we were ... lots of football fans and you've got to use up your sick days by Dec 14th. Going to be skeleton crews until the 15th.

I've got high seniority (and so do most of the regular signers) so generally get offered OT first and the joke has become that it's not an EO list but an OT one instead.

Hot line/one swipe per day...every day? We had that (I think 10 or 20$ per pay) at one point in time and it was a great deal. The food wasn't great but definitely passable+ for cafeteria food. Now they charge us for the majority of it the same amount they charge patrons. Free Christmas Thanksgiving and an employee appreciation BBQ (actually pretty good. Hamburgers chicken hot dogs and sausages from Costco and sides, no limits) in the summer.

I'm a traveling dealer so I've seen a variety of setups. At my current stop salad, bread, and bagels are free all the time and we get one trip through the hot line per 8 hours. If I work more than 8 I get a second trip through. There is no option to pay for additional trips. Food is decent, usually one vegetable, one fish, one or two meat and a few side options plus mediocre pizza, DIY sandwiches, and a guy who will make fresh burgers and such if you have the time to wait.

When you're staying at a motel or airbnb for 2 weeks a good EDR makes a huge difference.

It always amazes me how spoiled we can become. We get two swipes a day plus a lot of stuff like fruits/cereals/desserts, and beverages are available without swiping. We have a pretty good variety with a cook to order grill and a large salad bar/sandwich station ..... and yet I hear my co-workers complaining all the time about the food........

Its not great food but it certainly isn't bad food (yes at any given time their might be something that is bad, or something that has been sitting out to long) and ITS FREE ..... how can you possibly complain about this?

I worked at one place where we literally got the leftovers from the buffet ... so there was no planning or coordination. You could walk in one day have have 5 rice dishes ..... on another day there was spaghetti but no sauce .... on another day there would be spaghetti sauce but no spaghetti ....

But even so you could usually cobble together a decent bite to eat ...AND IT WAS FREE (there wasn't even a swipe system so while the rule was you got one free meal .... there was no enforcement)

Free food is an underrated privilege, especially if you can get something healthy. Meals cost around 15 kangaroo dollars for lunch and 10 for breakfast at outlets near where I work; add a soda and a coffee, that's over 150 AUD a week which converts to 114 freedom dollars at today's rates.

OMC: I want to see those cards, dealer
Me: Sorry, no.
OMC: (in a tone that implied this was the most ridiculous thing I could have possibly ever said) What do you mean no??? Why the **** not???
Me: They're already in the shuffler sir.

A few hands later OMC's neighbour, Grumpy Gus
GG: I want to see that hand.
Me: Sorry, they're already in the muck buddy.
GG & OMC (seat 1 and 10 of course) for the rest of the down: this dealer deals too fast, this guy needs to slow down, all he wants is to get in as many hands as he can, what a horrible dealer he is, each affirming the other's reasonable opinion

Maybe I'm a bit more tolerant of less-than-great food, but I don't think I've ever gotten sick from EDR. All the time I hear 'Oh I got EDR-ed' but I usually feel fine.

Thanksgiving EDR was great. They had the usual thanksgiving stuff. Walked up thinking they head dark meat in one spot and light meat in another. Turned out the other was prime rib. Yes, please.

Push the pot. Move the button. Take the toke. Drop the rake.

Gather up the cards, push the green button on the shuffle machine.

The blue deck rises up out of the machine. I go to insert the red deck, but I can't--there's a card in the way? It's lying, cross-wise, in empty spot where I'm supposed to put the red deck? And it's a RED card???

I guess when I pulled the red deck OUT of the machine at the start of the prior hand, the bottom card fell off, and landed harmlessly atop the blue deck; as the blue cards were pulled through the ringer, this card ended up in a spot the machine would not sense it.

NOW what do I do? Call the floor? Reconstruct the last pot? Give everyone refunds?

Quote:
NARRATOR: He did not.
I added this lone card back into the red deck. Next hand!

(Don't be alarmed, the rule governing the discovery of a wayward card after a hand is complete is that all bets stand.)

Does anyone here work in the Daytona Beach or the Fort Lauderdale/West Palm Beach areas? I'm looking for advice on which rooms are the best ones to work in. I'm looking to get out of SoCal after 8 months of struggling to get by. The room I'm currently in is quite likely the worst poker dealing job in the country money-wise.

TIA

Sorry, didn't come up during a hand ... next hand please.

LOL on a Dealer being 'too fast' ... I personally love fast Dealers, it's the ones that are 'rushed' that bother me. There is a visible difference IMO. GL

PS ... I would treat a HH tip differently than a tournament tip. Both of the 'non' winners specifically mentioned the HH when they handed out the green chip.

PSS ... I think I definitely would mention the previous tips to The Lady, especially if all three or even 2 of the three were regs. Those stories get passed around for sure. GL
