Re: The Breakroom: low-content gaming employee chatter thread. See posting restrictions in Post

Thanks guys. The specifically applied logic or illogic of this casino is still beyond me.

I spoke to dealer trainer/floor trainer today and he said that all chips are allowed on the table in any game except in red chip ($5) games where only purple are disallowed because they are not enough in contrast with the red chips. ...

I said, so purple are allowed in the $40 NL and all the blue chip games?

He said, of course.

I said, well purple blends in far more with the blue $1 chips than they do vs red chips. He paused and said, all chips represent money and are qualified for betting. ... ...

I said, ok, thanks, I have to push now.

I talked to a floor friend later and recounted this conversation and she said that she'd been specifically told by this same trainer that purple, red etc cannot play in blue chip games to avoid confusion as you all stated above.

Thankfully today is my Friday!

I'll try to sort this out with the Poker Manager in a couple of days. If the room really truly agrees on a policy of what the feck the room ******g wants I'll relax - even if I think it's illogical. But I can't relax when there's a jumble of opinions.

No wonder my well beloved former DC said that all dealers should be encouraged to take some form of anti anxiety medicational substance.

There should be two issues being discussed not one.

Even if you allow large to play at a table doesn't mean that they are the chips which should be played.

I see no reason why you can't say yes .. large denomination chips are allowed on the table and they play (in the sense that they represent part of the players table stake) and also say .... but we want players to bet with the chips which are appropriate for the game and accordingly insist that they change those high denomination chips as needed to provide them an appropriate amount of the chips used in the game. And if they persist in unnecessarily using the larger chips we ask them nicely to play by our standards ro play somewhere else.

Rare is the poker player on which nuance is not lost.

Similar thing happens in my room...I cringe when I see the 2/4 limit players coming to the table with nothing but red chips. Sometimes if I'm feeling frisky I make it my mission to remove every single red bird that hits the felt. Most of the time I just shrug and say whatever. The best was when a guy went broke and re-bought for $40. I start cutting out ten $2 blue chips and twenty whites when he stops me and says "Can you give me all red please? You don't mind do you?" Ummmmmmm

The ones that stand out to me are the blue chip players ($1 chips) who fill up a single rack and summon the chip runner for a color-up. I have so, so many thoughts on this.

Mostly, "WHY???"

They're not doing it because their stack has grown so huge that it's interfering with the play of the game. If that were the case, they'd fill 3-4 racks. Also, 90% of the time, they leave themselves about twenty $1 chips to play with, as if that's ever enough to sit down at a poker table with. And they almost never tip the chip runner, who just ran across the property and back for them (I love the room where I work, but the location of the cage compared to the poker area is a source of frustration for me, and the satellite cashier located within the poker area is only staffed during peak hours, never at the end of the night when these color up requests start flooding in).

My best guess: they want to psychologically "lock up" $100 before they leave, and they think if they color up, it will dissuade them from betting that money (spoiler: it won't!).

As an added bonus, they get to snap their fingers and order someone to run an errand for them, an opportunity to be a big shot, not to be passed up when available.

Which is also something you almost never see at the higher stakes games.

Friendly older fella (mid 50s or so) is also an avid Pokemon Go player. I'll often see him snagging one as I'm standing behind waiting to push into the game. In fact, he's so into it that he wears the accompanying bluetooth bracelet which sends alerts and flashes. Normally when an old asks him what it is he responds "It's a gaming device" and leaves it at that. Understandably he sees no need to have the "omg old man playing videogames" conversation time and time again and I don't blame him.

Today however, he's in a different sort of mood.

The player next to him asks him what it is.
"It let's me know when someone is lying."
This ridiculous statement was believed.
The floor was called and his Pokecheating was reported with earnest and zeal.
The floor convulsed with laughter.

I love old gamers.

That's hilarious, and I'm totally using it next time I play.

I don't have a Pokemon thing, tho.

I'll just put a colander on my head.

No, the Pokemon are digital. You can't put them on your head. Silly non-gamers!

Make sure you use a Chinois in the winter ... It will trap the steam coming off your head better and keep you warm!

Strainer ... has single handle, no base, smaller holes/slots
Colander ... dual handles, base, larger holes/slots (space helmet)
Chinois ... no handle, base (sometimes serparate), used for juicing or mashing, very fine mesh

Most kitchens have a 'hybrid' cross between strainer (single handle) and colander (base, larger holes/slots) GL

PS ... This has not been a Martha Stewart moment, but a flashback to 8th grade Home Ec class (and reinforced at Bob Evans).

Added benefit ... If management asks you to remove it you can tell them it is religious headgear ..... you are a Pastafarian (worships the Flying Spaghetti Monster)

Dealing 1/3, folds around to the blinds, "chop?" "do you chop?" "flamingo?" "what's that?" "just call and check it down?" "sure whatever"

On each street I wait because I still need to see each player check, "why are you waiting dealer? we're checking it down." Okay idiot, you're not even supposed to agree to do that but at least go through the motions.

So finally it gets to the river and the guy who asked flamingo had T7dd, and the other guy who had no clue what flamingo was had 82o and the ten-high scooped the pot. Then I had to listen to the flamingo explanation that I hear at least once every damn night, code word for bad beat, can't say bad beat or it will be voided, blah blah blah, then he gave the guy his $3 back. Thanks idiots for wasting everyone's time.

Honest Q from a punter: how often is this enforced? I'm only talking about $5 on red/black or Lodden Thinks, which I'll play to loosen up nitty tables (or loosen up my deservedly nitty image).

I play regularly at 2 casinos, one is 100% against even a single white chip moving from stack to stack, the other (where I am a much more known commodity) couldn't care less, as long as the chips stay on the table. So I have no idea what other casinos/dealers do re: this rule. TYIA.

Always cracks me up when two LL players don't even discuss chopping the blinds, they just launch right into playing the hand out. These are usually players who are new to cardroom poker, and don't even know what chopping is.

Why does that crack me up? Watching most of the OTHER players get MAD about it!

"Aren't they going to chop???", like this hand is a waste of HIS time.

I will ignore a couple bucks but never when it's done to faculitate cheating (as in the case of the players colluding for the jackpot). But I can't let side bets happen .... it's a gaming violation and I can get in trouble for it, but some one tosses a $1 chip for luck or some such nonsense I'll let that pass unless it starts getting our of hand.
