Needs to recheck his hole cards on every street, and God forbid if he needs to start counting to see if he has a straight.

So tonight I put out a flop, and it's checked to him. He's shocked to hear it. He quickly fumbles for his cards. I watch SportsCenter while I wait for him to pull himself together. I notice that just as this player learned the action was to him, at the same instant, a baseball player on tv hit a deep fly ball on the Top Ten plays. The outfielder gave chase into the corner, crashed into the wall, and crumpled with an injury. Since this is the Top Ten Plays, this is clearly going to be an inside-the-park HR.

Now my slow friend is looking at the flop, like he's never seen one before...and I make it pick'em that he's going to act before the batter makes it all the way around the bases. Again, the action got to him *just* as the ball was struck.

Results below:

Spoiler:
He had just rounded third and was heading home when I heard, "Call!"
Last week I'm playing at a different casino, older guy on my left has to keep asking what the blinds are, every single orbit for at least 2 hours. Checks the board after every street like it might have changed, in an end seat so he's half getting up, no less. Eventually I get into a conversation with him. Turns out that 3 months ago he was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's. Doc told him to keep his mind sharp, so he's continued to come to the casino 1-2x/week since the diagnosis. Wife drives him to the casino and dutifully hangs around a couple hours. I watched his game, didn't seem to be any glaring holes in it compared to the rest of the lol llsnl crowd. He's retired, house is paid off, finances are fine, just trying to keep mentally active. Nice guy. Slow as molasses, but nice.

Poll for the dealers here...

1/2 NL and 3 players limp, the small blind calls, and the big blind tries to fold. You remind the big blind that his $2 are already in the pot and he's entitled to see a flop. He's confused at first but eventually figures out that he might as well look at 3 more cards.

With 5 players to the flop, what is the likelihood that the big blind will be the one to win the hand?

A. Slim to none. His cards obviously suck.

B. 1 in 5. He has as good a shot as anyone else in the hand.

C. Better than 1 in 5. Maybe it's a ruse. Maybe it's some kind of weird reverse karma.

D. Who are we kidding? Of course the bb is winning this hand.

D all day

There's all a 100% chance of nobody complaining when you give the BB his cards back, but somebody throwing a fit once BB wins

No chance of him winning. I'm putting his hand in the muck and then going "ooops".

Beat me to it.
The answer is A because his cards are already in the muck.

Fwiw that's my response as a dealer but from what I've heard I'm in the minority ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Either he wins or flops 2 pair and loses everything. Even if you muck it you are the ******* to someone.

Guy at the table behind me cries, "Dealer, I'll give you $10 if you put a 2 out there!", just as I burn and put a 2 out there.

I did my best to ask for my money without completely turning my back on my table, but he couldn't hear me--everyone at that table was buzzing because that dealer put out a 2, too.

I have your back in this situation, because it's just too hilariously good for image to tip a 5$ and make my villain look like a tight-wad.

You make that sound like a bad thing... I used to be the youngest guy at the Stud table in AC all the time and it was always fun, even if I was the only person at the table who thought so.

Pretend that you are at an entertainment establishment and you come to learn that due to mechanical failure the A/C is out (it's 105 degrees outside) and there is no running water rendering food service inoperable and the bathrooms disgusting.
Do you...
A: Go somewhere that will better be able to accommodate you.
Or
B: Sit around and complain non-stop to the only people that are actually forced to remain on the premises.
If you picked B, I know what your hobby is.

OMG, Quad. How is that even possible? I'm so sorry.

I was in that spot once (racebook players, not poker; the room filled with smoke from a nearby fire). I did not hesitate to tell anyone who complained to STFU and GTFO. "I would, if they'd let me--what's stopping YOU???"

We've lost AC a few times. During the big East coast blackout in 2005? 2007? We stayed open but supervisors were allowed to take jackets off and dealers could undo the top button. We were PACKED because even with no AC we were the only place open other than the hospital.

The city forced us to shut down after a few hours when the water pipes burst, though. I wasn't working that day but imagine the poker players reacted much in the same way as when we had a bomb threat: why can't we cash out our chips and will you save my seat.

On the plus side the bomb squad came and used a robot to detonate a suspicious bag and we all got paid for our whole shift, although that meant a couple hours sitting in the staff parking lot. I think I got to leave at about 1-2am and had been scheduled til 6.

I had the bomb threat thing once (some dope tried robbing the cage, said he had a bomb instead of the standard gun). It was almost midnight on a weeknight. We had 5-6 games going. We stood outside about two hours. Bosses wouldn't let any of the dealers go home, as if we were going to go back inside eventually and start 5-6 games on graveyard--as if none of the players would choose "playing somewhere else" or "going home" over "standing outside for hours."

I remember when they tried to kill off 1-3 by adding a 50c ante, same as 1-5 (1-3 was previously bring in only). That was about 12 years ago and the game still goes daily.

I worked at a casino when a tornado hit right next to the poker room, knocked out electricity and a power line was down on the only road to get off the property so all the players had to stand around and wait in the middle of the casino with no power so no one could play anything, even the generators were out. Busy friday night at around 10pm, 20-40 players with multiple racks of red were the oddest sight. Most of the poker regulars were pretty cool about everything but the slot players were flipping their **** that they were stuck in the casino.

The next day was much worse when they brought in Semi Truck sized generators but still only had essential power on so no AC and no air movement. We had 20 ft ceilings and there was a solid 12 feet of smoke that you could see just hovering. The poker room smelled like wet feet for days because all the players were sweaty messes.

The break-ins are coming! The break-ins are coming!

And we're not traditionally a break-in house. This should be interesting.

It's been a long time, but eventually, this business was going to need to open the door to break-ins again. We got a couple now, too. They're doing fine.

O/8 PLAYER: (annoyed by the delay) I've been playing here fifteen years, I've NEVER asked for a set-up! It's stupid!

YTF: I've been playing twenty-five years...and I've never called anyone "stupid".

Every summer we get a batch of new dealers with varying experience, Some are pretty close to break-in ( i don't think we have gotten too many with no experience at all), quite honestly they are easier to deal with then some of the new experienced dealers who can't really grasp the concept that some things are done differently from the way their old room did it. The break-ins tend to be willing to ask questions and still want to try to get better.

I've always said I'd rather have a dealer that's rated 2/10 that knows they're a 2/10 and works to get better than an 8/10 who thinks they're a 10/10
