We used to be 11 handed. Moved to 10 after a room reno just because the chairs were bigger. I elbow seat 10 and 1 stacks a whole lot less, at least accidentally..

In our market gaming regs cover the total amount of seats in the whole casino. We were able to open two more baccarat tables by dropping the poker seats.

Over the course of a year, a high volume room will make significantly more if they spread 9 handed games rather than 10.

Yea, gee thanks. I just love going to work on Christmas, not even earning holiday pay. 90% of the players are those that don't celebrate xmas. Which means they are likely foreign, which means they don't tip either, let alone throw you a bone for "xmas".

Xmas eve, one 5-10nl player tossed me $5 & $10 for xmas cheer. That made it so at the end of my shift I was only $55 below avg for 8 hrs.

But hey, I really feel like my CEO's "gratefulness for the employees" means a lot. Even if the EDR food is inedible. I'm sure the brass had a nice xmas at home, counting bonus money, enjoying catered 5 star meal with family. Happy to help out.

Did they give you a free meal at least? We get one for Xmas/Thanksgiving. This is the first year I didn't pick up a shift from coworkers with kids and even though I don't celebrate it: no regrets.

This was by far the worst Christmas I've ever experienced in the industry, and I'm not even talking about money in the slightest.

PM sent. Don't think specifics are appropriate in this case for the thread.

I had the exact opposite experience actually.

Three players check it down.

SB mucks.

BB tables one card, which gives him bottom pair. Then we wait several seconds, until he finally tables the other card.

Last player promptly tables a winner.

BB promptly accuses him of slow rolling.

In the Good News section, I shipped the dealer fantasy league for four figures. I haven't been this excited to win a football league since me and Christian Okoye took it all home back in 91 on the big screen. SUPER CHAMPION!

I'm a Patriots fan. Was in the break room with a Broncos fan, discussing the upcoming playoffs. It was a very enjoyable conversation, because I can almost never discuss football with someone who doesn't say something stupid in the first sentence or two. It was such a treat...

...which didn't even last a full minute. Because I said to him, "We're lucky we're in the AFC. How wold you like to have to go through Seattle, Carolina, and Arizona, just to GET to the SB?"

Another dealer heard that, and ran over to tell us, "Arizona? I lost my fantasy league this week because Arizona's defense..."

I don't know how that sentence ended, I stopped listening. With a disdainful scowl, I said to the Broncos fan, "Well, it was fun to talk about REAL football for almost a full minute, before the fantasy bad beat stories came pouring in. "

And since we're talking sports, and folks seem to like stories from my sports book days, here's a cross-post from the Red Sox thread in SE:

Hey...I know this guy! He used to be the radio play-by-play announcer for the minor league baseball and hockey teams in Las Vegas when I lived there. The casino I worked at brought him in once a week to host a sports call-in show "LIVE! From the race and sports book of the Imperial Palace!", which was essentially an hour-long info-mercial for the casino on the radio. I would usually be his Vegas Sports Betting Expert guest/co-host.

Like most info-mercials, it was on a station no one listens to, where air time is so cheap, it's worth taking a shot that someone out there might stumble upon your show. You know what that meant for us? We had to host a call-in show that never got any callers! I would routinely offer buffet comps to anyone out there to phone in, and never got a single taker.

It didn't take us long to realize that no one was listening to us. Once we had exhausted the day's headlines, we would often fill the rest of the hour talking about watching the Boston teams growing up. It was 1999, and we spent more time talking Lynn, Rice, Neely, and Bird than Sosa, McGwire, or Elway.

It's been a pleasure to follow his career since then. I thought he hit the jackpot when he got the Pirates gig...but when you leave a tv job to go back to radio, you KNOW that going back home to call Red Sox games (alongside Joe Castiglione, the guy we grew up listening to!) had to have been his dream all along.

Best of luck, Tim Neverett. Hope you're there a long time...unless something opens up at NESN.

I don't know the announcer's name anymore, but we would always listen to the radio coverage and mute the TV during home Eagles games. I love(d) that guy.

When I grew up in Pittsburgh in the 70's we always muted the TV and listened to Myron Cope.

I really enjoy mlb.tv because I can mute the terribad tv announcers my team has and sync up the radio broadcast with one click.

Some ballparks have a baseball karaoke booth, where you can be the announcer for half an inning, and bring home a recording of it. I would love to do that some time.

I did that with a friend a long time ago when we were about 15 or 16.

As luck would have it, we scored about 7 runs in the inning, there were a few pitching changes, and we literally ran out of tape. I think we got in 45 minutes to an hour of "announcing". I remember it was a lot of fun.

Also good luck tonight in the box tonight on NYE.

Where you grew up, imagine doing that for the 4 sports teams and imitating the voices of your youth!

Bruins - Fred Cusick
Pats - Gil Santos
Red Sox - Curt Gowdy, Ken Coleman, Ned Martin, or John Miller

but I'd love to hear your Johnny Most
