The vast majority of the time, the player is wrong and won't listen to reason. I'm not saying you were that player, I'm saying that's the context of that situation. So the floor may just say whatever he thinks will end that conversation as quickly as possible.
The context is that the floor is a former coworker of mine, and a current friend who I'll meet up with for dinner or a drink from time to time.

That's certainly a better context.

I don't hate the reasoning, FWIW. The entire hand is a clusterfudge. Two additional people have now acted on the hand, and the raiser thought they were originally acting after him, not before him. There are several possible rulings and reasonings here. No big deal, really. If I cared more, I'd pay more attention, even on hands I'm folding.

So the President of my Fan Club (ie the mutiny-leading 1/2 pro) came dangerously close to giving me a direct compliment last night. I was doing a rack fill, and he commented to his neighbour how he liked that I didn't waste time by putting them on the table and counting down chips, but just grabbed stacks two or three at a time and dumped them in the rack.

I may win him over yet.

So yesterday I am following one of the sketchier dealers.

I push into a game and a player says "She was the most confusing dealer I ever had." there weer nods of agreement.

So I said "Oh! we are having that contest?"

They laughed and said "she was really bad"

So I grab the deck and start dealing counterclockwise, I got out 4 cards before someone announced "Ok, you win"

Fills should be broken down on the table in front of the players so the players can see the same amount of money is leaving the table as is returning to the table.

That being said, and lot of places don't do that and their players don't mind.

Chips have to be counted befor ethe fill goes into the rack. We will take the chips out and breakdown at least one stack (and then demonstrate that the stacks are equal sized) and break down the odd chips.

I have worked in lots of rooms where anything goes with fills. We would do fills in the middle of a hand, without counting money or chips ..... but in my current room fills are done under strict rules.

We have to verify but they are less strict. Racks can be verified by running a finger/chip down them. Stacks that aren't full have to be broken down though.

If you go to the ATM for $500 in $20 bills and pass the cashier on your way back to the table to rebuy, please kill yourself

Yeah, I break down non-full stacks. Didn't realize not counting the racked chips was a problem. But then, I seem to be the only one in our room who counts the money on the table. Most dealers just hand the cash over the shoulder. Many floor reach in and grab it.

If it makes a difference, we're not allowed to have chips. We can't cash them in, not even for players. Tips are dropped in a locked box and pooled.

During a break in last night's tournament, overheard a bad-beat story that featured the word "idiot" several times, and I realized that I hear that word in the poker room more than every other place I've ever been, combined.

On top of that, it was Aces Cracked night, which, again, brings in more of this type of player than usual. And it was about our 50th straight day of sub-zero weather (literally), and this one was windier than usual, and I think that also contributed to ratcheting up the tension in the room--people are reaching their breaking point with this weather.

(Just checked the five-day forecast, no relief in sight...it's already no fun writing out that rent check every month, but seeing "March 1" and knowing that it's STILL below zero every day just makes your heart sink to the floor. I am DEFINITELY gonna look into working a few Card Player Cruises or circuit events somewhere next winter to get an occasional break from this...)

Lol I'm in the break room now and the other dealers are collectively down 75$ in scratchoffs. Discussing the odds of hitting a big jackpot and such...

Call Al Gore, maybe he can explain this global warming idea to you!

New England is in for below zero for the next week.

I had this one week.

I was dealing a must move Omaha 8 game and we had been losing players quickly to the main game.

A new player (known extreme nit) come sto the game. He wants the nine seat, the button is in the eight seat. Instead of just sitting in the nine seat and waiting one hand .... he sits in the open seven seat plays a hand and then moves to the none seat.

A little while later we are playing 4 handed with a reduced rake ($1). Another player goes to the main game and the button is on Mr. Nit. He now demands that there should be no rake. I call the floor and the floor can't authorize no rake on his own so he has to get a hold of the shift manager to get the ok. They Okay and we are playing no rake.

I deal the hand. Move the button, inform Mr. Nit that it is his Large Blind and he gets up and walks because he doesn't want to play 3 handed.
Where in Vegas can you play with no rake? Even if it is 3-handed?

In my experience it is not uncommon for players to be allowed to play shorthanded for free to get a game started or keep a game going at a time when it is reasonable to think more players will soon be coming and there isn;t another table of the same game for them to move you into.

So its 4AM and your game gets to three handed ..... probably not getting to play for free.

Its 8PM and your must move game gets down to 3 handed ..... very likely to get the no rake deal.

For a bunch of people who enjoy talking statistics and odds, I'm rather surprised no one here thinks "damn it's cold, must be an outlier" rather than "Global warming is bull because it is very cold this year.".

In appropriate terms, Global warming is a winning player making slow but steady progress on winning, around the Winrate of 2bb/yr with a 4,000 year sample, and we're really worried when it doubles up. But just because he lost this year, his AA beat when JJJ hit the flop and fish had a J, doesn't mean the variance won't balance out.

On a sidenote, real glad I moved to the SW this year.

As a fight is breaking out two tables over, my jackpot partner dealing one table over says to his assembled players "Don't look! If we see them throw a punch we're all stuck filling out incident reports!"

Last night in a 7 way limped pot, it was checked the whole way and the board ran out AAQAQ

Spoiler:
It still took 15 seconds for everybody to table their hand. Sigh

I put a straight-flush on the board the other night, pretty sure it was my first.

It was a HU tourney hand, all the money went in on the flop, and one guy was way ahead at the time. That seemed to make it funnier.
