It's not, it's an appalling example of bad customer service.

Both the dealer and the floor were 100% wrong.

I would never mention such an incident in a room I dealt in. I would be ashamed to be associated with the dealer and the floor.

I sincerely hope at least one player filed a formal complaint about both employees.

While I wouldn't actually stop dealing ..... I have made the threat. After 5 chops I look at the players and tell them that if it chops the whole orbit I'm not dealing anymore. I've never had it make it all the way around a full table but its been close a time or two.

I've had it chop 3 times in a row on a 2/5 table when the nits are out but it usually stops after 3 maybe 4 chops.

What's worse IMO, is split pots at the 4/8 tables just because the pots tend to be large and it takes forever to divide them but that's just the way that game plays sometimes.

There's a difference between a group of players chopping the blinds, waiting for free coffee or a free shot at the jackpot; and a group of players who ended up chopping the blinds half a dozen times in a row because of not having good enough hands.

A group chopping for free stuff should be kicked out or split up over some other tables or disqualified from the promotions or whatever. A group of guys who chopped half a dozen times in a row because of the combination of cards they were dealt and how they play shouldn't be threatened.

get a grip. when it chops 5 times in a row ...... someone is playing way to tight.

Not to mention that in Nevada (as opposed to the California rake situation) there really is no great reason for the players to chop anyway......

What actually does irritate me is when a game gets down to four handed and the players still are chopping the blinds .......

The thing that amuses me the most about chopping the blinds--whether you're in the "I always chop!" camp, the "I never chop!" camp, or anywhere in between--is how annoyed people get when confronted with someone who doesn't do it their way.

"Hey, fine with me, you don't have to chop if you don't want to," said in a voice that clearly indicates that it's not the least bit "fine with me" at all, but rather an incredible insult/affrontery.

Its even more so when it should be clear to everyone that the player who just said no to the chop is new to the game and doesn't really understand anyway so it clearly wasn't a decsion made with any malice.

Re: The Breakroom: low-content gaming employee chatter thread

As a poker player, I feel sorry for you guys sometimes. Especially the ones that have to deal on the swing shift. The amount of **** I've seen that you have to deal with is amazing, and this is coming from a person who used to teach remedial math at the university level. You also probably don't get enough recognition when you are performing well.

I was at Ameristar KC tonight and saw a mess happen in what I assume to be a 2/5 nl game (due to the massive stacks of red). 2 drunk guys come by and stand behind their friend and start yelling and stuff. At one point I hear the guy next to the box just start yelling as well, and when the dealer calls the floor to get the drunk guys away and calm the **** storm is brewing, the person next to the dealer just starts yelling ***** ***** ***** to her. I'm amazed that the floor didn't toss him. This dealer is a competent dealer from what I can tell, and has superb skills in making sure drunk players don't slow the game down.

I'm probably not the person the dealers most want to see sitting down. While I make sure I'm not slowing the game down. I'm not the greatest tipper in the world. If I win a small pot, I'm probably not tipping, and I pretty much only tip a dollar per pot. I'm not big into small talk, and when I am thinking hard I have been told I almost look angry. I probably make some dealers nervous because I sometimes will get up and talk to the floor about dealers (almost always it has been pointing out how good of a job one of them has been doing). I usually like to keep my praises and complaints as anonymous as possible. But I felt compelled to give her 2 redbirds after she left that table even though I wasn't at the table. I won a kill pot immediately after that. So maybe it was good karma.

i was in a 6 way limped pot in a 3/5 game last night that was checked down the river with the rainbow board showing broadway. i bet 20 expecting someone to say all in. 4 guys called and one mucked. i tabled my hand and announced straight. another guy mucked and the dealer split the pot 4 ways without laughing even a little bit.

Good dealer.

I was in the same situation and bet and the dealer says, "Why are you betting? The nuts are on the board."

I've never had a dealer say that, but unfortunately its not uncommon for a player to say it.

I'm currently a TPPP banker (corporation) for a CA cardroom, and looking to transition to dealing right after the WSOP employees event.

The floorman tells the players to gamble up or he's shutting the game down and the game proceeded.
I don't know what's up with all the hate for this, but I would definitely throw the dealer $1 if he did that.

"how can you raise preflop? you don't even know what your hand is yet?!!?" and they loooooove reading hands outloud and telling dealers where the pot goes.

I'm ready to bash LL O/8 players as much as the next guy, but unfortunately, most dealers need this sort of help.

Re: The Breakroom: low-content gaming employee chatter thread

yea i can see that. i don't find it as annoying as i do helpful when they announce things like "nut/nut" and "okay yours" but i can't stand the "3/4's there" chit chat or telling me not to break up a red bird and just give them an extra two whites.

heads up player a wins 3/4. I push half the pot to player a then half the chips in front of players (not taken into the pot since they were heads up) then split the other half of the pot. why is it so confusing for players to see that its right and not make me take all of it in

Re: The Breakroom: low-content gaming employee chatter thread

I dealt in a $2-$4 O8 game with a half kill at $50. After pushing a pot that was a bit more than $50 announcing the kill and tossing out the kill button, the player stacks the pot into his own stacks and then throws me back the kill button telling me that pot wasn't $50. I recite back all the action giving him running pot totals...... he looks at me and says

"Well then I don't know what you did with the rest of that pot becuase the pot you pushed me didn't have $50"

drwonoski --- do you really not count the rake towards the kill pot at your place? I never heard of such a thing.

What is it about O8 players?

Mostly they're the biggest bunch of miserable complaining nits that have ever lived.

The reason SOME dealers need this help is because the players wont stfu and let them learn it themselves. Granted, they should learn it before they sit in the game, but practice makes perfect and when you have a bunch of crabby, annoying old nits screaming at you it is tough to practice...

This happened to me as a dealer and a third player mucked his hand while the other two tabled theirs. Simply chopped it two ways and to my shock, the third player didn't say a word. Maybe he was more mad at himself or just didn't care.

Before that when the casino I work at had just opened up and had a lot of green dealers (including yours truly) I was ready to tap a dealer out once and a straight flush was on the board. The dealer made a comment about it and a woman in the hand got very upset. I didn't blame her. It was also a valuable lesson to not be that guy as much as the impulse might be there.

Re: The Breakroom: low-content gaming employee chatter thread

Question for the poker dealers itt:

How strict do you have to be on the "kicking people out for swearing" rule? I was playing in a game in LV about 3 weeks ago and this suuuuuper drunkfish was sitting 2 to my left. He rebought 2x in the first 10min I was there and barely slowed down. He was clearly good for the game. However, he had a mouth on him. From what I could tell, he never said anything bad to floorstaff/cocktails/dealers, but was generally ranting, usually involving several F-bombs. In fact, he left several tokes to both dealer and floorstaff, whether he was in hands or not. I'm pretty sure he just liked being told "thank you." (Power trip?)

The dealer did warn him several times, and eventually he got the boot. I didn't have the sack to ask the floor to keep him around (nobody at the table was complaining about his language since he was spewing so much), but would this have been a terrible thing to ask in the future? I simply decided to not get involved at the time, but wonder if I could have helped keep him around.

Also, +1 to dealers having waaaaaaaay more patience than I have with stupid people. I can deal with drunktards, but people (esp regs) that constantly berate and complain about the dealing has to be the most annoying thing on the planet. Lot of respect for the guys that have been doing it a while.

Re: The Breakroom: low-content gaming employee chatter thread

There are two nice thing about O8 and PLO in my room:

1) The players are not very good at it so they don't sweat when the dealer isn't either.

2) The other dealers are really bad at it which actually makes me look pretty good.

When I dealt the PLO game, they wanted me to round up. I told them they were killing my spirit a tiny but by removing the challenge; I liked being able to know how much the pot was whenever a player asked me. They were surprised at this.

Dealing Omaha at my place is not very profitable - the hands take a long time to go and the low stakes means that even the advantage of maybe getting toked from two players is not worth it. But I still love it... Even though I hate to play it! (I don't mind limit O8 but PLO is a nightmare.)
