Probably not, but this is the breakroom right? Meaning things you might tell others about the crazy things that happened during your shift?

Sorry, but the sheer drama of it was pretty spectacular. You must see a lot of $65k pots where you deal I guess.

Tourney players likely see a lot more side pots than limit or NL cash players.

How do these players function enough to get to the casino? Some of these people are so dumb, I don't know how they get dressed in the morning.

I wonder this almost every day that I work. Even scarier, when these idiots turn out to be teachers, lawyers, scientists. It's almost as if you put a card in their hands, their brain turns to mush. Seriously, W-T-F. I do not know how some of these people remember to breathe.

Yup, the place where I deal has tv's, so we see lots of high stakes poker.

Well, nobody tells bad beat stories about small pots.

I can't open the article at the moment. Is this highest divorce rates by profession forLV only, or for all proffesions nationwide?

Wow, this thread drifted away.

Last night, I'm dealing the early rounds of a tourney, at a very quiet table. In fact, the whole room is quiet, as the joint just opened for the day. There's a guy at the table behind me who won't shut up, talking nonsense nonstop, and the dealer has his hands full getting this guy to act when his turn comes up.

The room gets particularly quiet, and the whole room hears this part of the narrative:

LOUDMOUTH: So I'm able to keep the bike from falling over, I even manage to stop before I crash into the water...

DEALER: Three and a quarter to you.

LOUDMOUTH: ...but my foot is on a little boat. And the boat starts to drift. So now I have a decision to make. (pauses for dramatic effect)

DEALER: Yeah, three and a quarter!

Anyone ever had a card split down the middle during a hand? I'm talking a clean split, like the card was brittle and just snapped.

Any reason not to allow the card to be played for that hand?

I have never heard of this happening before. But we don't generally take a damaged card out play in the middle of a hand .... we wait till the end of the hand and then take it out of play. I don't see why we would treat this differently

I have. I wouldn't believe it if I didn't see it.

As I pitched a card something didn't feel right. It sailed through he air while spinning just fine.
When it landed it separated into two pieces. Split cleanly down the middle lengthwise.

Have you seen anything like this?

None that I can think of.

I think the more interesting question is why the card cracked. Playing cards are made from cellulose acetate. Cellulose acetate becomes brittle from over exposure to UV radiation or heat. Is your room disinfecting playing cards through heat or radiation? If not, it is odd that a single card would be over exposed this way. If it was an ace, I'd become suspicious. Changing the card properties would make it pitch and cup differently. Might be useful.

I've seen this as well. Card got pitched and landed in two pieces with one piece face up. It must have actually split in the shuffler or something. Maybe the heat inside the shuffler affects the cards over time but I don't think it gets THAT hot in there.

We treated it like an exposed card since half the card was visible and replaced it after the hand.

The were KEMs by the way.

Alright, good to know you guys have seen it too. It's happened 2-3 times in the last two years. We use Angel, which are manufactured in Japan.

This is interesting. The cards aren't treated or cleaned at our property. We use them every other day for 3-4 weeks before they're ruined (due to the bac players who insist on using a modified bac "peel"), so they only get about 12 days use.

In another instance, I've had a couple crack in a quarter section, and the split followed a rounded curve that matched the design/logo on the top of the card. Your explanation, plus this odd crack pattern makes me wonder if it's something in the ink.

Thanks for the replies.

Well it took 5 years in the industry, but today I finally received word that I'm being bumped up to full-time.

That's right, a full-time dealing job. No having to take a dual rate gig. No suits and ties. Just dealing. Five days a week. Oh. My. God. Health Insurance! Dental!

Congrats, that's a good sign. Is your room getting busier or were there dealers to replace?

On a sidenote, I heard Commerce hired 30 new dealers a couple weeks ago, so I guess we're going in the right direction.

We've just passed our busy season, so I wouldn't say we're getting busier (been holding steady past when we should based on the time of year. Thank the DoJ?), but we lost a handful of dealers over the past 4 months or so and I guess they've decided to bump up some part timers to fill the holes.

I had to call the same regular for a string bet 4 times in a down today. 1-1 game.

Some were typical.

-Throws out a red, says nothing, the two who follow throw out white, then he says "Dealer, raise to 5". This happened twice. And on the 2nd one, I made eye contact with him before anything was said. Clearly didn't raise.

-On the turn, a guy bet 80, the reg had ~140 in front of him. So he does the three-barreled all-in shove, silently. First motion has like 25 chips. I inform him it's a call and move on.

-Pre-flop raise was 8. He throws out two red, pauses, and says 34. I may have accidentally given him the People's Eyebrow at this one. He makes a bit of a stink, (Had gotten drained a little bit, and nobody wants to hear a dealer say, 'string bet', 4 times in a professional game) Floor stands by and watches. No issue.

As I go to burn and place the river card(I place it lower and slide it up into its position), he stands up and points "String River! String River! Floor, that's a string." Hilarity then ensued.
