I was going to say "butterflies and all that". Weird.

Welcome to B&M!

We've got a "Don't ask, don't tell" policy on tipping around here. Most of us don't want to talk about it, and don't want to hear about it. However, we know we can't stop it completely, so we've built a Cone of Silence called the Tipping Containment Thread for such comments/reactions. You can find it easily enough.

Enjoy your stay!

What YTF said.

So to change the subject -

How does your room handle the holidays?

Bidding for the day off you want?
No changes to the schedule? If it's your day to work it's your day to work.
Some incredibly good idea that you can't wait to share?

Our room uses the "Holiday? What holiday?" and also makes it a blackout day. No time off for anyone! Bwaaahaha!

Holiday scheduling is based on a secret system of seniority, favoritism, and a little bit of standard weekly schedule. I'm usually off on Tuesdays (Xmas and New Year's Day) so with any luck I won't have to cancel any plans. That means I'm stuck working Xmas and New Year's Eve, but them's the breaks.

I'm the new guy at my room, so I'm working new years eve, New years day, Xmas eve, and xmas day. But for some reason the gave me thanksgiving off haha.

Fine by me though, I'll take Double time please and thank you

Did I have a post get deleted from this thread?

The tipping conversation was deleted. It doesn't belong here.

Why wasn't it moved? And how does it not belong here?

So yeah, holidays.

Looks like I get Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve off if everything holds but I wouldn't be surprised if I get suckered into working New Years.

Funny thing is after about 7 years in the industry I still haven't been in a casino at midnight. The last two years I've gotten out at like 11:40 and booked it.

I wasn't the one who deleted it so I can't comment on why it wasn't moved. But there is a tipping containment thread which is where ALL tipping discussion goes, nowhere else... it's a containment thread.

Right in the forum rules sticky:

<snip>
(8) Containment. Discussion of the following topics are limited to the linked containment threads:

Tipping (link didn't copy over)
</snip>

Any further discussion on the matter should be taken to the Moderation Discussion thread so as to stop derailing this one.

I've worked everything except 9:30-10AM...in the last three months.

I expect that this will be my first NYE having to work on the strip (I have worked NYE off strip before). I dread this .....as trying to get in will be a nightmare.

I was off on Thanksgiving since I am off on Thursdays. I am scheduled on Christmas Eve and Day and NYE and Day since I work on Mondays and Tuesdays.

I have worked ONE WEEK on Swing shift before we ever had a graveyard shift. I have never worked Graveyard in the casino. I currently get off work at 7PM each day.

NYE I will be home by 8PM for sure.

Heh, funny I brought this up this afternoon.

Today a memo went out:

Everyone works NYE. Those who normally have the day off (like me) will get first priority out as business permits.

Blah. Though not entirely unexpected.

I work 2 jobs, days at one, late swing at the other. I made the mistake of not asking for any of the holidays off except NYE on my night job. Thanksgiving I was scheduled for 4 doubles in a row. I thought I was gonna die!

Christmas eve and day I have 2 doubles in a row. And I'll work NYE during the day.

Next year I'll make sure I'm not doubled up like that. I don't mind working holidays but I do have a son at home and it makes me sad not getting to spend at least part of the holidays with him.

My room is dead NYE. Two years ago I ran out of gas on my way to work that night (it was a new car for me at the time) and I called up to say I was gonna be a little late and was told to not bother and got an authorized off... Last year I showed up and they immediately sent me home.

We were supposed to sign the memo to acknowledge that we read it. I wrote EO in front of my signature.

Our place used to use a blackout. A few other creative solutions between then and now too. Now we're unionized and if its your day off that's that, and if you want it off you put in a request (starting Nov previous year, after everyone has picked their 2 1-week blocks of vacation by seniority) first come first serve with a predetermined number of staff able to take the day. You can't take a day off with less than 4-5 weeks notice (whether or not the quota of staff able to take it off has been met) unless you can find someone to pick up your shift.

If you want a Friday off its impossible to give away since everyone is booked to work anyway. But they're happy to let you commute to work and sign out before you start!

I asked for the week of Dec 19-25 off, to fly home for Christmas. Approved!

I'm flying back Christmas Day. I know better than to ask for a day off the week of Dec 26-Jan 1 (ie, The Busiest Week Of The Year).

I should not look at that tipping containment thread. My blood pressure increases to an unacceptable level with each view.

By even mentioning that word it summons them in from the cesspool thread. Let's talk about something else.

Old timer today had a good line. "Are you kidding? You've been beating me for a hundred years! I'm going to start claiming you on my income tax as a dependent!"
