Highly doubt anyone was sitting with the 1500ish that you would want in front to play that game. People thought I was weird when I always made sure I had two racks of $2 chips plus $400 in red when playing the 8/16 where 7 of the 8 had overs.

I picked up a new phrase the other night ..... I suspect it will now become my new go to phrase......

"I appreciate that you feel that way."

I like it because it tells the person that i am not going to argue with him .... but clearly lets him know that I believe he is wrong.

And I don't see any way I can get in trouble for using this phrase.

River is another 6, board now shows 86656. What???? Well, obv, they didn't have it on the turn, but now they've GOT to have it, right?

Spoiler:
I can't remember the action on the river. Guy had straight-flush. Girl had 85.
1/2 NL, flop is 10,J,Q of spades,

turn was 10 of clubs.

2 players, seat 5 and seat 8.

Seat 5 bets $45 (pot sized bet), seat 8 beats him to the pot with an all in raise (another ~$75). Seat 5 insta-calls and flips up his hand at the same time Seat 8 flips his over.

River is 3 H

Seat 5, K high straight flush

Seat 8, K high straight with red cards.

lol pretty much. Everyone seemed to enjoy it. 8 chip 16 chip structure - with overs and a full kill never seen anything like it. Didn't really slow the game down because all players were competent chip handlers. Hope it goes more often lol

I think I'd rather play that game than deal it lol

I'd deal it any day. Being throw 1 or 2 chips every hand in those games is a beauty

Not a dealer but I use this phrase frequently in my business life when dealing with customers and/or personell issues.

It shows empathy but is very clear on the actual facts of the situation.

Same dealer pitched a card off the table 3 times in one shift. SMH. Does that get you a write-up in your room?

Edit: What types of things get you in hot water in your room? X number of burn&turns in X number of days, things like that...

Player told me a funny story today about going to the Venetian and playing Omaha/8 for a couple hours, winning 300 bucks.

The funny part? As he was leaving he noticed the plaque and said "Wait, this is high only???"

Get that player in my game! Seriously, after a few hours, how do you not notice that there hasn't been a low hand shown? And a serious lack of chopped pots? Yikes.

And to make it more incredible the game would have been PLO because the V doesn;t spread a limit High only game.

What's 'overs'? Mentioned in the 16/32 talk.

copy paste from http://www.europoker.com/poker-terms/overs/

"In a limit-game of poker, the players may choose to go beyond the limits of the game by choosing to play overs. To play overs mainly means to increase the stakes of the game and thus, make the game more challenging and interesting. Players, who are looking to play overs and are looking at raising the stakes, need to put a symbol of sorts to indicate their willingness to do something like this.

The symbol is usually in the form of a token of some sort, displayed in front of their seats on the table. When a round of poker begins, then at the start of the betting round, if only the players who chose to play overs, i.e. the players with the tokens in front of them, are remaining in the game then the players are allowed to raise the betting limits to double the current permissible limits."

If some of the players want to play higher stakes, they get 'overs' buttons. For example: if seats 1, 2, and 3 have overs buttons, and on the flop, it comes down to seats 1, 2, and 3, on the next street, the stakes are higher. (Don't know if it just means doubled stakes, or not. I'm think you can choose whatever limit you want to play when using overs.)

I hope this wasn't too confusing. Someone else jump in.

it doubles (or otherwise increases) the betting limits on a street where all players have overs buttons.

for example, if you and i are playing 4/8 and we both have overs buttons, and it's HU between us, the betting limit is now 8/16

it allows some players at a table to play higher limits while still allowing other players to stay at their lower limits.

they can represent doubled limits, or higher. i've even played a game where the overs buttons switched the game to no limit.

If you want to play for higher stakes, you get an "overs" button. At any point in the hand, if the only players remaining in the pot have such buttons, the higher stakes kick in immediately for the remainder of the hand. Usually the higher limits are 50% or 100% higher (so in the 16-32 game, the betting would jump to 24-48 or 32-64, depending on what the overs players had agreed to ahead of time).

You don't see it often, because the overs players usually bully the players who don't want to play overs, for two reasons:

--they've announced that they're timid players by declining the overs button;
--if we get the timid nits out, we can start gambling!

Timid nits don't like this, and they won't play.

I have seen a few places around here run a limit $2-$4 or $4-$8 game with overs to No Limit. It strike me as completely bizarre but some people seem to like it.

Yes, I've played with NL overs at Club Fortune.

I've heard of it, never seen it, and it does sound like an abomination. But hey, to each his own.

My room started using Overs for the first time within the past year. Many dealers who had never dealt elsewhere didn't have a clue what they were. With the floor's permission*, I wrote a memo and taped it to the podium outlining what it was and explaining the procedure very clearly.

Reading is fundamental, but yeah... I still had the following conversation every day for about 2 weeks.

Noob: Hey I had a question about that.
Quad: It must start the betting round with only overs players left in the hand for overs to be in effect. Overs cannot take effect in the middle of a betting round.
Noob: How did you know that was going to be the question?
Quad: That's always the question.

*
Spoiler:
Ok, I didn't have permission. I just sort of did it. Got tired of giving the explanation over and over. I'm not sure it helped.

Why wasn't the staff properly trained prior to their use? I guess it just sort of organically happened one day when a couple players asked if we had any overs buttons, and a well-versed floor person dug them out from the back somewhere for them without giving it a second thought. There were dealers that had little/no experience outside our house that were pushing into the game that day and had never seen an overs button before, let alone know what they did.

Every time we mention them on this forum, someone asks what they are as well.

FWIW...

That phrase comes across to me as passive aggressive and
therefore highly annoying.
