yup, another title, another round of taking **** for me...
The players know me as "the Boston guy" (doesn't *everyone* in America know a Boston guy?), and the local team here has never won a Super Bowl, despite fielding plenty of teams who were good enough to pull it off--so the jealousy is palpable, and they quickly contrast my experience as a fan to theirs. IOW, they need to make it about themselves.
I've always gotten chuckles and groans with the line, "Hey, I'd be *delighted* to see you guys get one...I don't *need* a SIXTH."
But when it came up the other night, I had to update it to "seventh", and it got a much bigger laugh than it ever had.
"Seven" is a funny number, I guess. I'm reminded that on the show Deadwood, there was a very vulger joke that had the word "seven" in it, and on the DVD extras, someone mentioned, "We tried that line with all kinds of numbers, but 'seven' was just the funniest."
