Well, I don’t know how OCD I am, but even with having read your post, walking in there was very disorienting. And I’m not claustrophobic, but the place seemed way too small.

In related news, I should have been smart enough to check Bravo before I went down there, but I wasn’t.

To be clear, I'm not the type to be bothered by such things--but even for me, it still takes a few moments to adjust to the unusual circumstance--but I can do it without ranting, raving, pacing, exploding at the next ever-so-slight inconvenience to arise, etc.

I'm guessing your Bravo reference is about long lists? I wasn't there last night. But since that wall went up, we've used every table we've got. We haven't needed to bring in 10 extra dealers in case we got 10 extra games, so staffing/scheduling has been a dream. It's all work, no break room for this guy. I'm finally letting go of the perfectionist anal-retention that exhausts me, so now I can deal 5-balls without crying about them, and enjoy the $$$ they bring.

Yeah, I think the lists were longer than I’ve ever seen them. The list for my game could have filled more than two tables. With all the available tables already in use, things looked pretty grim.

It's probably a superstitious inclination towards control.

They can't control the cards but they can control their route to the casino, their pre-game ritual and their lucky underpants. All of which will of course influence how they run.

Major casino renovations remodel their environment in a manner which is outside their control, this can only adversely impact results and there is someone tangible to blame for their problems: the nearest representative of the casino, the dealer.

I start pitching the cards, and when I get to the button, he's gone. And so are his chips. I never saw him leave.

We use the Ridiculous Forward Moving Button rule, so the button is in the wrong place. I stop pitching immediately, announce, "Bring 'em back," move the button to the next player, and pause for a moment to calculate who owes what blind now.

This dials up the OCD folks another notch--another thing that Should Not Happen This Way to deal with, and they don't handle such things well. The most Special guy in the group relieves his tension by saying to me, "I thought I had A.D.D. for a second--but it was just you."

Wow. What an *******.

I just take it. I don't say anything. This is my last shift before a 2-week vacation, I'm just grinding until my EO gets me outta here.

We get the goofy blinds, with Mr ADD now on the button. On the river they check to him, and the action stops for a good long while. This is LHE, he's not tanking, he's just zoned out for a moment. That's ok, I can wait. We sit there for little bit, until he finally snaps out of it and realizes everyone is looking at him.

"Oh, is it on me? I'm sorry. I check."

"Yeah," I replied, "I thought it was me--but it was just you."

(He didn't make me wait long, this was the very same hand. I know that's difficult to believe--so difficult, I almost didn't post this. But yeah, this happened.)

We got a reg who likes to sit at the end of the table. When he's running bad, he likes to fold by pushing his cards one inch forward, and making the dealer stretch across the table to get his cards.

He's long since stopped doing this to me, as he knows that I am *always* going to ask if that's a fold, then ask, "May have those cards, please?" So now, it goes like this:

--He pushes in the cards for an inch;
--I don't reach for them, nor say a word, just stare patiently;
--He tosses them in another six inches (that's good enough for me).

I mention this because last night, he was sitting directly across from the dealer, very unusual for him--but he wanted to watch football, and the renovations have temporarily robbed him of the tvs he can see from his usual chair. But now when does his 1" fold, it's trivially easy to scoop up his cards. LOL.

I mention this guy because last night was an epic football game, by all accounts. I've never heard so many people talk about how much they enjoyed watching a regular season game that did not involve the home team. This 1"-Fold Guy was watching the game on his phone, with earbuds. He told his neighbor he was doing that for the sound, but, "This feed is WAY behind the tv's! Seriously, it's like FIVE MINUTES behind! It's driving me crazy!"

I was going to tell him about a free app that delivers the sound to any muted tv you happen to be near (you take a picture of the screen, and it figures out what you're watching! It's called Tunity, it's great for poker players!), and allows you to sync the sound to the picture you can see...

...but why would I tell him that? [evil grin]

To me this is a question that is solely about what you want to do. If you consider the casino/gaming industry as a career as opposed to a job, then applying to be a DR is a no-brainer. If you have no problem jumping to other jobs regularly, then it might not be a good idea. I say that because management wants committed employees for higher-level positions. And that's not to say that strategy of job hunting is bad. But if you really like the job and the environment and you can picture yourself increasing in their hierarchy, then go for it.

My story is that I'm typically happy where I'm at. I'm not the one to be always looking over the fence to see if the grass is greener. Ergo, I've had 3 job in my 45 years on this planet. Yeah pretty rare.

Situation was dealer thought the player came to the table with ~1000 (5 blacks), played and lost few hands, then pocketed at least 2 of the black chips.
Can only call surveillance if the dealers don't know for sure. IME, the cameras are pretty good at catching chip-pocketers. We've had a couple guys perma-banned for not quitting the practice over the years. If he fesses up and puts the blacks back on the table, make sure you record the incident so someone else 6 months later knows about it if it comes up again. Especially if it is a regular experienced player. Most of the time when this comes up it's a young kid who doesn't understand the idea of table stakes.

One thing to watch out for though: if the guy really is a stiff/prick/flea/etc., it may well be possible that your dealer is feeding you a line in hopes that you will kick the guy out.

At my last place we had a player who was notorious for doing this on top of being one of the biggest pricks you can imagine. He either made no move with his cards when folding or moved them an inch and always complained that if there was no chip on his cards it was a fold, luckily I snapped up his cards a few times when he forgot to put a chip on him and watch him meltdown......it was great.

So at one point Sunday the table I was at had the Redskins game on behind me and when Alex Smith had his leg broken the 4, 5 & 6 seat all said holy F**K really loud and startled me and the rest of the table. Im guessing they showed the replay once more because about 20 seconds later the whole room was groaning and turning away, had one lady that nearly ralphed all over the place from the sight. Only after a few seconds was one person clapping really loudly....apparently he was facing Alex Smith in fantasy.....and shocker shocker........he pretty much in the top five as most despised regulars in our room.....

Not going to lie it was pretty gruesome, only one I can remember worse off the top of my head was that kid from Louisville a few years ago during the tournament that hat the bone shoot out of his leg.

Gruesome and career threatening but watching LT's leg drive into Thiesmans and turn it into an L shaped right angle was worse and did end his career....
https://youtu.be/Z7acc6qwcmQ

Even LTs immediate reaction is telling. He could not wave out the medical staff urgently enough. Completely clean play but with a devistating outcome that no one desired or anticipated.

You have to root for injuries if you gamble, I went crazy when I heard Deshaun tore his ACL thought it meant my Kareem Hunt 13k ROY ticket was a lock though all I got was a $300 refund because Kamara was not even on the list lol. I guess it did slightly benefit my Jags division bet also although it probably was a lock either way.

"have to root for injuries when you gamble" story:

HBO had a drama set at Santa Anita called "Luck". In the first episode, a small group of friends pool their money and buy hundreds of PickSix tickets, trying to win a multi-million-dollar jackpot. After a few longshots come in, one of their tickets hit 6-of-6 winners, and they scooped the jackpot (no one else went 6-of-6 that day). They also had a few-dozen tickets that hit 5-of-6, each good for a smaller payout, known as a "consolation". The smart gamblers in the group calculated their win before it was posted on the board; the dumb guys relied on this info, unable to master the math.

In that last race, the horse about to win broke his leg near the finish line, and had to be euthanized in front of the entire grandstand...but not one single gambler cared. They either celebrated their win, or grumbled about their loss, and nothing else mattered, not even the life-or-death happening before their eyes.

In a great line from the script that didn't make the final cut, one of the dumb guys in the group asked about those consolation payouts, "We get consoled for the dead horse too, right?"
