Are any dealers who aren’t back to work yet getting updates on potential reopenings or dates to come back?

I sit down at a table and as I am sanitizing the area, a reg comments to a friend of his walking by the table how he's just staying for my down, at the conclusion of which they award the high hand - he had a straight flush to the King. With only two tables going, it was a pretty safe bet.

He talked about this a few more times as I dealt. He even spoke about how he already tipped the dealer.

I am sure you all know where this is going... But having it end up the way it did was almost unbelievable:

On literally the last hand of the period and my down, he gets involved with a hand against a young kid in the four-seat. The hand gets kinda big (for a $1/3 game). On the river the kid checks and he bets out $45 and the kid thinks for a second and check-raises to $105. The guy hemmed and hawed and did lay it down (only having him get stacked on this hand would make the story too unlikely even for a Hollywood script).

Of course the kid showed that he turned the royal which meant on the last hand of the down the guy lost a decent-sized pot to a guy who beat his high hand with the only hand higher than his, costing him the pot, the $300, and the tip he already gave the dealer for the high hand he didn't win.

The poker gods were in rare form for that one, that's for sure.

That story will get far more mileage than the money would have for him.

If you want to move to Michigan there are/will be some opportunities. Firekeepers casino is re-installing their tables and training new pit Dealers to replace the poker dealers that did ride this out. I've heard they are pretty fair in the poker room and it was the tournament capital of MI before everything went down last year.

With Gun Lake in the middle of an expansion and no real word on the return of poker there then FKeepers should rule the live scene once again.

MGM and Greektown in Detroit have both opened back up, no word on Motor City casino .. if you want a larger city.

With cash tips now 'allowed' in Texas, you could take a peek at any of the card clubs in Houston, Austin or Dallas .. after they thaw out later this week! GL

I'm sure I posted this somewhere on this site but .. .

Player 1 'buys' a $500 HH from Player 2 (friends) for $475 with 15 minutes to go.

Player 2 then proceeds to felt Player 1 with 2 minutes to go .. AND in the process replaces the HH, thus collecting $975 for his 'one' HH award (and the pot).

Pretty sure they drove together that day as well .. fun, fun. GL

I wouldn't have thought that beating yourself with a new high hand would count as losing.

Damn. Did player 2 then go home, screw player 1's wife, steal his dog and eat his leftovers too?

We don't have any dates, but we might be getting our benefit package back soon.

Imo this has just accelerated the ongoing poker bust. Quite a few rooms will never reopen. I feel lucky that I’m employed.

It’s funny, right before covid, I was in the process of really stepping up my retirement planning. I’ve been in a few other industries and I don’t really want to have to change industries again. I thought a lot about if this industry would be able to take me where I want to go til I retire. I concluded yes, but a global pandemic wasn’t on my radar. :/

The silence is deafening for sure. I had to laugh when I called a casino to get an update and got 'We've been given no new information'.

I then said that I was told that the slots were being taken out of that area. 'We change slots all the time.'

I asked if she could confirm that tables were going back in .. 'I don't go in that part of the casino, so no.'

I'm not sure if she's in the wrong job or if I should feel sorry for her to be locked into the corporate line of (lack of) communication. GL

We just finished a round of hiring and got a lot of people giving up on their local joint and moving to a new state for work.

Poker rooms are booming in LA whenever they come open. Maybe the rooms around the margins are going to close down, but it's not a big deal. What's really going to hurt are the old whales dying from covid because they have no ability to assess risk (that's why they're whales).

Yeah - where poker does open it returns to normal levels very quickly. Rooms that were on the bubble before because the market was over-saturated or casino management hated poker won't come back but the rest should be ok once regulators allow it.

I doubt even the CEO of my casino has solid information on when poker will be back so I wouldn't give a phone operator a hard time for not knowing. I'd be frustrated too if I were tasked to answer questions about changes but had no answers to give.

Less might be more at least where I am. Pre covid there were five poker rooms in my city with a sixth that was about a 30-45 minute drive from downtown but they benefited from being a Cesear property. Post Covid three have reopened, two have permanately close with the third probably not reopening until restrictions are lifted. Browsing Bravo (still natural habit) I've noticed the largest poker room in the city which is running half the tables as pre-covid pretty much has all tables running every day with lists on weekends being 30-40 deep on the popular games. The second largest room just went expanded from 10 to 17 tables (25 pre-covid) but generally carry 6-8 tables on weekdays and a full room on weekends.

Ol' Gil is two cigars and about five rum and cokes in right now so grammar and spelling is a little iffy right now.

So as I posted earlier I have left the poker industry because of covid and am transistioning into my new life. So today was the first time since my poker days I worked on a Sunday, granted it was totally my own choice and only because I was makng up hours from last week but it is still nice to choose when I work on weekends. I only worked two hours to get ahead on work for next week and went home. I am still enjoying the fact that like a normal person I can look forward to the weekends as chance to relax and catch up on chores espeically since I saw a post from a friend that he just finished a 13 hour shift on Friday-Saturday.

Anyway story time,

A couple months ago while at work I actually ran into a player. Luckily for me it was a player I actually liked, he is an ol' southern boy who while loud is a very nice person and on the list of favorite players. Anyway when he flagged em down for help he did not recoginze me at first after chatting for 15 seconds we recongized each other and chatted for about ten minutes. I drove him in a golf car to where he needed to go and he actually contacted my manager to mention the great service I gave him.

Also another story that makes me thankful for my job. Normally my job does not deal with the general public but there are times where a customer comes up to me looking for a vehicle or help moving a vehicle. Well I had person I was trying to help that was nothing but rude. After five minutes of trying to help and him being an ******* and talking to his buddy in another language I basically hopped into my car and drove off. I dont know how many times I wanted to basically tell a player at the table to **** off, hell even back to my retail days I dont know how many times I wanted to tell a customer to **** off but basically I was able to essentially tell a rude ******* to **** off. Made me so happy

Just curious what dealers and whatnot think of this.

The room was crazy busy so I guess the high roller area was already full so there was a 5-10PLO Omaha game running next to my game. Those guys trash talk. A lot. Nobody seems to get too upset while taking serious trash talk after losing a 20k pot.

Then, one dude says the game is rigged and the dealer is dealing from the bottom of the deck. The same guys who were not fazed by trash talk went bananas trying to get this guy thrown out, to the point of while the floor is over there trying to figure it out they are yelling get the f out man. Just leave you POS and similar. The guy was not thrown out but was abused verbally for about an hour.

How I feel about it would be directly related to how well they tip and how much rake they're charged. If the house and dealers are making the same or worse as an easy $1/2 I'd want them to behave or GTFO.

Questioning a player's or dealer's integrity is very serious and very out of line and its great that players essentially stood up for the dealer much as any good dealer will stand up for a player when another falsely accused another player of collusion.

Personally the worst thing a player could ever do was question my integrity. A player could call me a moron (which is slightly true) or a fatass (definitely true) but the second a player did that, they lost all respect from me.

Belligerent Wheelchair Guy executed a masterful speedrun this week, going from not knowing how to post a blind to completely 86'ed from the casino in about 20 minutes.

Of all of my least favorite players, there are probably some that are worse than the, "It's not the money, it's the principle" Guy, but I can't think of any at the moment.

While those people are annoying my least favorite are the, "Ive been playing poker for 35 years so I know more than everyone else including you." That statement usually follows or preceeds a astonishingly stupid comment.
