Meant it as “is it not”

Are there a lot of States that still haven’t been allowed to reopen casinos???

I don't think anyone on this site is tracking open slots .. but IMO there's well over 50% of casinos open in the US right now. And I'd be willing to surmise that well over 75% of those have table games going as well. But it's certainly possible that some sites just don't want to spend the extra money to 'take care' of table and/or have extra staff right now with revenues down.

If you search for the open rooms thread you'll see a healthy amount of poker rooms open and the list grows each week, with Indiana opening up rooms in the last 10 days. GL

It is way more than 50%. The American Gaming Association says 912 open, 81 closed.

For you laid off-back in the pit folks .. there's hope!

Dealer who quit when CV hit took some time off and now is on a tear (terror?)

1) Degen hits a 130k Bac run
2) Degen hits a 70k Bac run .. the next day!
3) Wins end of the month car drawing
4) Starts making a 'loop' of several casinos, taking in free rooms, comps
5) Heads to hot action spot Texas to play 5/5 .. ends up in a 10/25 and goes from down 40k to up 100k in 40 hours! No sure the action, but played 82k pot with his KK v QQ at one point.

He's gone broke plenty, owed many. Paid it all back and hopefully now that he's a little older there will always be some in the sock drawer. GL

Here's a question I pretty much already know the answer to, but I'll ask it anyway.

Have any of your rooms come up with good solutions to the walking player problem other than "pick them up aggressively" in the new 'shorthanded is the new normal' world in which we find ourselves?

While we're at it...
What's your policy on players away from the table now? Time allowed? Dinner breaks? Multiple walkers handled?
If you could, please let me know the # of players in your games in your answer. Thanks.

No but it’s become an increasing problem, especially in our time games. I’ll be interested to see if anyone has any better solutions. Bobby's Breakroom - for gaming employee chatter + YTF appreciation. See restrictions in Post #1

No dinner list. 7 handed, 30 minutes in pot rake, 1 hr in time rake. We do third man walking.

Hey guys, one advantage to not working is no crappy turkey meal in the EDR today!

Seriously, I hope everyone enjoys this holiday.

One thing Covid has done is get me to stop being lazy about bringing my own food to work, because there's no damn way I'm trusting those people to prepare and serve food safely.

What would you do in this situation? There’s 5 dealers today who all started at the same time and wanted to EO so we gotta draw for it. The shift manager uses seat cards from the tournament to determine the order, lowest seat number goes on the EO first. She walks over to the table we’re gathered around with the seat cards in her hand and as she goes to spread them face down on the table she kinda lifts the bottom card and I can see it’s Seat 1. She puts them face down on the table and half ass spreads them but I know exactly which card is #1...30 seconds later I’m signing and driving home Bobby's Breakroom - for gaming employee chatter + YTF appreciation. I've been in similar situations with EO and with starting off the night at a table vs break. Sometimes I take advantage, sometimes I don't. If I think anyone else saw it too I might grab all of the cards and give them a quick wash then let someone else pick.

Usually I try to just not look at the cards at all to avoid temptation but occasionally all I care about is getting out of there by any means necessary.

I used to work in a room where EO went by seniority so the same people got to leave if they wanted to and others never had the option.

My room has what I think is the best/most fair EO system I know of.

All of the FT employees are on a weekly rotation for top of the list, as far as starting with the longest string & first to be sent home. So if you're 1 of 8 FT employees starting at 8 PM on Wednesdays, you'll be 1st one week, 4th the next week, then 7th, then 2nd... so after 8 weeks you'll have made a full cycle. Then the PT employees are always after the FT employees. And the on call employees come last.

As long as you get to work on time and sign the EO list before you deal your first table, you're eligible for EO. When it comes time for the DC to start sending EO volunteers home, he goes back to that initial list and just sends home the top employee who signed the list. No need to show up for work 2 hours early just in the hopes of getting sent home 1 hour early.

Dinner buttons (1 per 8 hours) give you 45mins (in reality an hour). One per table. Any other player gets buttons. 2 BB and you're out. 10 handed. When games get short the players glenerally choose to take a collective break; the game will break after 30mins if we have enough of a list to open a table (and don't have free tables). No 3rd man walking rule.

In the bad old days we used first on the list, but like you say people who came in super early (before we were unionized people would work 20+he shifts and sleep in their car, sign the eo list and nap untill they were supposed to start. Now if you've had one during that pay-week you drop down.

My room has another rule, thanks to an aggressively employee friendly HR dept. Employees are scheduled for 8.5 hours (8 hours plus 30 minutes of unpaid break). If we're busy or short-staffed, and you're scheduled to work from 6 PM til 2:30 AM, you can go to the DC at 2:30 and let him know that you've worked your scheduled hours and you're going home. And nobody (not the DC, the shift manager, or even the poker director) can do anything to penalize you for it.

Nice! We got paid for a full 8hrs (our shifts were 8 hours, so our breaks were all paid). When we unionized we dropped to 7.75hrs paid, but are guaranteed 20min breaks every hour. I LOVE my union and understand why they went that way (more jobs, less work and RSI) but really wish they didn't. I'd gladly do longer rotations and 1 less break and take home more pay.

But our benefits rival car companies in the 80s and public employees, so unionization was working h it IMO.

It's rare for a dealer to take advantage of the "I did my 8.5 hours and I'm going home" rule. Most of them have the old-school mentality of signing up for the EO list, hoping to go home as early as possible, but accepting that they'll work a 12+ hour shift if it's busy.

There are 2 or 3 dealers who habitually leave after their 8.5 hours no matter what. We haven't gotten to the point yet where we have to force a table to close, but we have had some 8 or 9 table strings as a result of this. Generally, our scheduling is such that this would only become an issue at around 3 AM, when tables are closing anyhow, with more players leaving the room than coming to the room.

My previous room had this rule and it ruined the room. We ended up force breaking games a lot.

I get why it’s a nice benefit for people, but you need the right group of employees for it to work.

Closing a game because a dealer has to go home is such a foreign concept to me that you might as well be speaking greek.

We have a union rule where you can sick EO without penalty as long as you have sick time available. There are a few dealers who will use every second of sick time they can. 2.25 hours get added to their account at the end of the week, they'll sick EO after 5.75 hours. They have to schedule more day dealers to make up for it. Luckily the sickness hasn't spread to other shifts.

I started dealing in the "you'll work until you're no longer needed and like it" and "more work=more money=good" tradition so it's all very confusing to me.

Some state labor laws may differ, but federal law allows employers to require you to work more than 8 hours a day and they can fire you if you dont. Our casino states very clearly In the employment letter you sign to accept a job that you agree by accepting to work as required based on business demands. We would almost never force break tables due to dealers getting stuck. But I remember once when we had several short handed tables and players didnt want to combine tables (a rarity in itself) and management finally combined them anyway to get dealers out
