Also, wear the apron; it can help protect your pants.

I'd need an apron that covers the outer edge of my thigh, about knee-high!

My favorite pair of pants I found at Goodwill called Haband's fit forever pants.....they are light yet have held up very well against the abuse the tables do to pants plus they stretch so even with my fat ass getting fatter the pants still fit.

I miss having an apron, lost mine last year, we are not required to wear one in our poker room but I liked wearing it because not only did it protect your pants but on those hot days I could go unzipped and let some air in down there and not look like a goofball.

So as I am brushing this evening before our tournament and am changing the TV's from the Fox football coverage over to Sunday night football and a couple ESPN's and get ready to push into the lineup when I noticed that ESPN had on coverage from the WSOP on. I did what any normal person would do in this situation.....put down my bank, ran back to the podium and quickly grabbed the remote and raced across the room and flipped the two TV's with the wsop to something else before anyone could notice it was on because if you think its bad having poker on in your room....try having it on when a $20 tournament is going on. The comments and arm chair poker playing is about 50% more absurd

I have one that would work. Unfortunately, it has the logo of a casino on it. I always say up high enough that my pants would rub against the table in front, so that would be the first place to wear.

Every Sunday night, the tv's in our room are dominated by the football game, of course...

....unless my Patriots are playing. Suddenly, no one is interested in watching the game. The suits aren't promptly adjusting tv's, the players aren't demanding the game be shown.

It's uncanny. All over the room: The Simpsons here, infomercials there...maybe one tv in the whole joint has the game on.

Actually, last night was better than most, but still, our coverage was far less than usual for Sunday Night Football. But at least I got to see some of the game from the box...

...or would have, if they hadn't played Fog Bowl II.

You guys have to provide your own uniforms? Do you at least get some reimbursement?

Every wear I have worked shirts and apron (if required) are provided and we wear our own black pants.

Some places I have worked launder our shirts for us, others leave that to us to do.

I've worked in places that only provided apron and/or vest. I was expected to wear standard dealer dress shirt (lusually white, long sleeve, one pocket with no button on it, no buttons on collar)

Actually I had forgotten ... that was the case at the WSOP.

Huge pot breaks out, all-in vs call. Board is something like AAJT6. Bettor tables A6. About two seconds later, caller un-confidently tables A6. I start chopping it up. Uninvolved players asks caller, "Was that a slow roll?"

It takes a while to chop this huge pot, and during that time, the entire table takes turns blasting this guy for such a scurrilous, unfounded accusation. He defensively answers, "I didn't SAY it was a slow roll. I was just asking!" No one is buying his nonsense.

I turn to the player next to me: "Did you just steal a dollar out of my tray?"

"What? No!"

"Oh. I was just asking."

My point, as I should have expected, was missed by all.

Hey poker dealers, i completed a dealer program nearly 3 months ago and had a hard time finding a job. I found out today that i hav an audition in 7 days, unfortunately i havent really been keeping up with dealing and practicing and the 3 months really took a toll on my abilities.

So id like some advice on how i can spend this week to most productively get up to pace. The casino im auditioning for is very very strict on only employing very well practiced dealers so im feeling a bit intimidated. I want to spend this next week preparing to the fullest.

Thanks!

Get all your friends over for a home game where you are the dealer.

If you don't have friends, practice pitching to a table full of stuffed animals.

Or dogs. Keep an eye on the French bulldogs, they cheat.

Good call. People without friends are known for having lots of stuffed animals.

Whenever players get upset by the guy who won't chop the blinds, I always want to urge them to stay home and play with their stuffed animals. "You can chop EVERY HAND! It would be paradise!"

Should I be worried or not worried that all tournament downs are now going to be counted and tallied by the Bravo system instead of signing a piece of paper?

I'm thinking worried.

Probably less chance of manual error by a supervisor this way. Are they counting downs or are they counting minutes at the table? Just remember to swipe your card as soon as you sit down. And track your downs manually if you're not doing so already.

I don't know why this would worry you. We have been doing this a long time. You don't have to worry about errors reading down cards, or lost down cards. If you get pushed late you are getting paid for your time (assuming they now pro rate by the minute instead of the down). You still should watch for errors as nosy stem eliminates all mistakes... someone has to take the info from Bravo and then do the calculations and that can still be a source of error.

YTF: eight-four for low.

O/8 PLAYER: That's a four-eight!

YTF: You guys make me want to just say absolutely nothing at all.

Not worried. I do it this way and the only ones that have to worry are the ones that forget to swipe in. If you always remember to swipe in when you sit down and make sure your name is there then the only thing that can happen is if you get pushed to break and your relief forgets to swipe in, then you get paid for their down. Aww shucks
