At the higher limit games, I keep the whites to a minimum, and I never make change in the pot solely for the sake of it. If the player wants to tip me, he will.

At 1/2, I have my methods, and what I feel is the ideal number of whites for a pot. But that's about as far as I go in tip hustling.

I only juice whites if they have none in their stack.

There are $1 chips in every pot I push. It's been so long since I've dealt a time game, i can't recall how i handled those.

I feel like this happens less often than the other dealers are saying but low and behold 2 guys with near equal stacks get it all in today for a fairly large pot (JT vs JJ on a JTTxx board). The loser probably still in shock from the cooler says "what the hell am I gonna do with this" and throws me his last $3.

I'm dealing at Tournament Table Five. The player in Seat 8 gets eliminated.

"Five-eight!", I call out loudly to the TD.

"We're getting short," says the player in Seat 2, referring to the several empty chairs at our table.

"Ah, five-eight isn't that short!", I said playfully. I should know, I'm 5'8".

TD broke the table shortly after that. The player in Seat 1 drew his new seat assignment, and when he saw it, he laughed.

"I started on Table 9," he said. "Then I got moved to 8. Then 7. Then 6. Then here to 5. And now I'm going to 4!"

Some people just want to be annoying. We have a player who is perpetually grumpy. Hardly ever seen him crack a smile, and he doesn't engage much with the table. He's the kind of guy who likes to push his cards forward before it's his turn to act, look away from the table, and then insist that we remember him special and should muck any unprotected hands. On the one hand, telegraphing. On the other, nobody ever pays attention to that stuff anyway. So whatever.

Anyway. Last night.

Player A & B are in a pot. Cap'n Grumpy is not in this hand. On the river, Player A bets $50. Player B goes all-in for $100. Player A is tanking, because nobody thinks ahead in these games.

Grumpy drops a few chips in the pot, "accidentally". Okay, whatever.

Then a short while later, he says, "I'd call with queens."

Player B gets a "wait, what?" look.

Player A asks, "What did you say?"

Grumpy repeats, "I'd call with queens."

"FLOOR!"

Grumpy is taken away from the table for a chat. When he returns, he insists that he did nothing wrong, because Player B asked him what he said. Player B says, "dude, just cop to it and apologize, sheesh." Nope, nothing wrong. Nobody has any right to be upset, and we should all just chill out.

Some people just want to be a-holes.

i've never been around more people who just seem to hate life more consistently than when i'm at a low limit poker table. it's quite fascinating.

Apparently nobody won at poker last night in my room because all I heard all night was "I can never win with this dealer .... grumble grumble grumble .... expletive .... expletive......"

We allow the flips. It's always at the end of the night and they'll do it for their last few hands. It must be agreed by all that want to participate by them putting in the agreed amount before the deal. The dealer pulls that money in and deals the cards and the board with no waiting. They are not allowed to bet on any street. They would be elligible for a BBJ. We have had no issues.

Poker means never having to say you're sorry.

Long time ago, a player mucks by firing his cards at me. I do my standard move of stopping the game, placing my hand on the felt in front of him, establishing eye contact, and asking in a calm and perplexed voice, "Did I throw something at you, and I don't remember?"

"Oh, if I were throwing them at you, you'd know it!", he assured me.

I shrugged and resumed the game, noting, "You've certainly got a funny way of apologizing."

Heh, I'll try to remember that. But I doubt I'll get away with it.

Thanks for your responses to the flipping. The folks who do it in our room will do it at any time. Even at the start of the session. And they'll want to do it many times in a row. Does this change your view? Does this circumvent buyin caps? The other day we had someone leave the room because he didn't want to play lottery poker.

If it is not the end of the night and not everyone agrees, then I don't allow it. If the same person keeps asking and it is holding up the game I will ask them to stop.

It sounds like avoiding buyin caps. I used to hear stories about players doing this sort of thing in Florida when they had the $100 max buyin law.

As far as flips go, as a Florida dealer, I can say we have had our fair share of work in this area.
I don't make them each check individually or each player put their bet into the pot in turn, I prefer the band-aid style. Faster this gets done, the better. I whip all the bets in the middle, grab the rake+JP, and roll the board out ASAP... They're gonna waste your time at showdown but get to mucking as many hands as you can and move on

I've read that this is exactly how FL regulars would start 5/10 games every day so they could build reasonable stacks during the $100-max buy-in era.

So last night after a "discussion" between me and a player who had just thrown his cards for the second time, the player in the 1 seat quietly said to me "why are you arguing with him ... just call the floor." My answer was that the floor would have been nicer to him, and he laughed and said "you are probably right". BTW card thrower didn't throw the cards again during my down despite his neither admitting that he was throwing the cards or making any kind of apology.

After playing Omaha last week for the first time in months, god do I feel for you guys.

Talk about a grumpy bunch of players always telling dealers what to do and how to split pots and who has what for the high and who has what for a low and if it was a kill and joe blow missed 2 hands make sure he isn't in the system. Oh we have 1 seat on our game! 1 seat! Floor! We need players!

God. It made my head hurt.

I just wanted to yell at the players just to let the dealer do his/her job! Quite frustrating.

Whenever a random asks me what I do for work, I've taken to saying that I work with special needs adults. Not only is it true, but it prevents all the follow up questions and conversation about poker and casinos that I don't want to answer for the millionth time.

And today I learned that if you're facing a fifty dollar bet and you turn your hand up and push your cards forward it doesn't mean that you are folding. Bunch of geniuses play the entry level 1-2 game I tell ya.

I average at least once a shift saying to myself: "id love to post about this in the break room thread" and then never ever remember what I wanted to post about
