I play where I work, but the minute anyone grumbles about, I rack up and quit.
Last time this happened, it wasn't even where I worked, it was at a different property owned by the same company. It was late, the game was 5-handed. I raise on the button preflop, and the BB grunts, "Don't chase away the customers!" I end up heads-up against the SB, and she's agast that I would bet into her. As the dealer pushed me the pot, I said, "Deal me out," and the game broke.

I would recommend giving the player the "HALT!" sign with your hand, like a traffic cop. Once he stopped fumbling, I would ask, "What are you trying to do?"
This way, you get the clarification you seek, the limit player doesn't screw himself, and you don't get accused of suggesting that he raise.
