Best location in the US for 5/10 - 25/50? Best location in the US for 5/10 - 25/50?

Hey folks. Haven't posted in awhile, but looking for some info.

I'm ready to move up in stakes and my local casino only runs a 5/10 or bigger game once or twice a week.

I've been destroying the 2/5 $1k max they run daily for roughly 17bb/hr for like 3 years now, I play in the bigger games when they run but I feel like I could be making way, way more money by finding bigger games more consistently. I'm recently single, which means I have the option to move and get myself into bigger and better games.

I live in Southern California and am just out of comfortable travel distance for LA, so before moving closer I figured I'd ask around and see if there are any locations that I might not know about action-wise. Texas seems like a somewhat obvious choice, but I'd rather not go there for various reasons (though I might, if it's that good).

17.5bb/hr over how many hours?

I am guessing LA is the best followed by NY when they open a casino in Manhattan.

Roughly 4300 hours. 10 hour sessions, 3 days a week basically. The game typically plays more like a 5/10 so it's probably not as impressive as it seems (or maybe it is and I suck less than I thought).

Man, I don't want to live in LA. I'm gonna have to move an hour or so drive away and the traffic there is a nightmare. ugh.

Even if casinos open up in NY, no one is mentioning officially if they'll even have poker. Some of the locations, especially in the city, are limited for space as it is so I doubt they'll even have poker unless MGM at Yonkers gets granted a license.

Parx in Bensalem, PA is one of the only places in the north east to get a regular 10/10 game going (3K max, with several on weekends and Tuesdays). The 5/10 games is dead almost everywhere, even the borgata unless you're only looking for a couple games on a Saturday.

If you were in the SoCal area but not that close to LA, you should drop by the Gardens casino for 5/5/10 NL $800 Cap mandatory bomb pots and the 5/5/10 $800 cap bounty game (mandatory bomb pots plus $25 bonus from each other player for winning 2 or more pots in a row).

Based off talking to the regs in the Gardens player pool, I would say that the potential winrate in the 5/5/10 bounty game are way higher than anything except 10/20+ no max NL games.

Just check out the Gardens for a poker trip. Make sure you try out the 5/5/10 mandatory bomb pot game and the 5/5/10 bounty games. Then you will have a good baseline comparison compared to other poker markets.

After all, LA is one of the big poker areas, and it is much closer to you than the other big poker areas.

If you don't want to deal with traffic, there are lots of areas close to the Gardens that don't have much traffic going to and from Gardens.

Basically, Orange County and Long Beach are not far away from the Gardens casino. Orange County is actually pretty nice if you like suburban living. The commute from a good chunk of the OC to and from Gardens Casino would be 30 minutes or less. If you were staying in Long Beach, it would be way less than that.

FWIW, I have heard a lot of good things from people about moving to Texas to play poker, but it really depends on whether you want to move that far away just for poker.

If you are already living in SoCal, maybe you would like to stay in California to maintain your relationships with friends and loved ones here in CA?

It's dead everywhere? Man, that's not great news.

Guess I'm gonna have to stick around the LA area if I want to move up. That kinda sucks.

Holy ****, that’s a pretty good advertisement for the Gardens.

Don't you start in about the Gardens now.

Also thanks for the move, whoever did that. Didn't realize I posted in the wrong spot.

as far as the north east/NJ goes, yes. Parx is the place to go for regular games above 2/5 on the right coast.

I'd kill to trade places and have access to the LA poker market, and I'm not even playing a high niche game like you.

It sounds like you just dislike LA, at least the part near the card barns, and that is fine. Somewhere like TX will have much lower cost of living. I'll be really interested to see if the action there is as great in 5 years as it sounds like it is now.

But if you don't put the stipulation on that, you dislike LA, and if you're playing high enough, the cost of living is not a great concern, I would think it would be a good place to be.

Silly question: what on earth is a bounty game in a cash game? Maybe I should watch that video for the answer.

Spoiler: apparently it has nothing to do with tournament bounties.

Odd that no one is mentioning Florida or New England. Both locations have regular 5-10 and 10-25, sometimes with straddles, on a regular basis.

You should travel to different places and play.

You should definitely travel to Texas and play and see how good it is. Spend some time in Dallas, Houston, Austin, and San Antonio. Better games lower cost of living.
