Well, don't lend someone 20k unless you're the kind of guy an angry degen won't dare pull a knife on, or you have the resources to enforce your demands. Seems to be a common and standard mistake in the poker world though.

Yeah , If you have an extra 20k to loan to a degen poker player, but lack the "resources" to gain repayment , then you are in the wrong business.

Told him sorry, but that I don't lend money to non-family members. Guy got a bit huffy with me, but walked off and tried the same thing with someone else.

Haven't had this happen to me before and was wondering how common it was? Who in their right mind would actually loan money in this situation? Is this something that I should tell the floor about or just ignore (seems like if he is living that close to the edge he has no business in a casino in the first place).
This is very frequent. Call em railbirds. Although it's rare to get asked by someone you don't know. Don't make friends at a casino, you're eventually going to get solicited for money. Don't go with your friends either, unless you want to get solicited for money which will end in you loaning hundreds that you'll never get back.

Tell the floor? Na. The floor probably won't do anything about it anyways unless it got really out of hand. And even then it depends. Cause if its a guy coming in every day and losing the money he brings in, then he starts asking around, within reason, hanging around the rail, so forth, after he goes busts, there are so many of those, the floor isn't even paying attention to it.

Unless the guy got hostile or insulted you, just let it be. Dude is beyond busto.
