Call ahead .. 313-237-6735 .. You have an hour to check in, but the 1-2 list is crazy and they will drop you if you aren't standing 'right there' when you are called. Both the 1-2 and 2-5 lists move fairly fast so don't be discouraged by a 1-2 of 60 ppl as most of them will be call-ins and not even be there yet. If you are a 1-2 reg, I think you would play fine at 2-5 if you have the BI$ but it's OK to nit it up at 1-2 as well!

I'm a walker myself, but you are closer to Greektown (Jack) and MGM than MCC for walking. I have no issues walking on Grand River Ave during the day but at night it's best to just get where you are going. All 3 sports arenas are very close to the casinos as well if you are a gawker for those things. GL

Up to ~$895,000 as of today.

As I read it, it appears that a straight flush over quads or straight flush over straight flush would NOT qualify for the big BBJ jackpot. Seems kinda strange (but would eliminate a bunch of winning combo's, making it grow so large).

I just assume BBJ's are negative EV - but maybe not when it gets huge. Easier-to-hit jackpots don't seem to bad if they attract more recreational players to the game. (and don't cause the huge lines OP mentioned)

they are great for losing players its just that they get to play a shorter time before they go broke. but do get a small chance to strike it rich.

bad for winning players as that money is going off the table every hour. and they dont go as far with their hands so less likely to ever hit one.

same to be said of high hand promo's
and much much more prevalent!

given a choice I'd much rather have neither
but out of the 2 the bad beat is much less -ev.

giving a free card to get to the river for the hope of hitting a high hand and being sucked out on is much more likely to happen, causing you to lose the hand.
in a Bad beat game, you typically don't think about it and will protect your hand.

anytime they take extra out of the pots for a promo all get hurt. for many reasons.

Local casino is doing away with BBJ once it hits again and it's mostly because of feedback from the regs that they were tired of paying into a fund that they had nearly zero shot of winning and then the money leaving the room for good.

I applaud management for listening to them.
i know this is about Rivers, im a reg there too...but i thought the reason is because the new poker room manager came from somewhere that didnt have a BBJ, and he thinks its unnecessary/bad for the room etc, not because anything the regulars have said. 2 other points:

1- id say its about 50/50ish in having heard what players think about getting rid of the BBJ, maybe a few more want it to stay rather than go.

2- the high hands ABSOLUTELY make the play more dry (i.e. when the flop is qq2, if theres a decent high hand payout that hour, the flop goes check check check a TON bc whoever has the queen wants to see if the 4th one comes, rather than a bet and win without qualifying)

Except that at low limits, considering how enthusiastically the players speak of the promos ime, I think it brings players in.

Not at small stakes NL where everyone is a +10 bb/hr winner.
