Maybe it was my imagination or im missing something but the other day i was playing a 10 handed deepstacks tournament . I was on the button the guy on my left was BB and the guy directly next to him acted last and went all in. I thought BB is last to act ?. Isn't the player next to the BB UTG? I was going to say something but if i was wrong that might have given away some sort of tell that i am some sort of newbie to the game.

The guy on your left was what is called the small blind (half of the BB) and directly to his left is the BB.

I think we need to know just a bit more. If the player who went all-in didn't have any chips in the pot prior to going all-in then this sounds fishy based on your position that the BB was 'directly' on your left.

If the table was full (10 players) then it's hard to imagine that there was a 'dead' SB between you and the BB.

How many chips did the player on your left have out in front?
What level were you on in the tournament?
Were you the BB or SB in the previous hand?
Did the 'BB' or 'all-in' player just sit down and this was their first hand?

You are right my mistake BB and SB are last to act preflop . Post flop dealer is last to act right?

In poker terms, 'the dealer' is the ugly guy sitting behind the rack of chips with the deck in his hand.

The player position is usually called 'the button' and does act last after the flop (if she is still in the hand).

Actually if there is a bet or raise the player immediately before the last bettor or raiser would be the last to act.

Occasionally a player will be moved to the table immediately to the left of the button and be the big blind with no small blind, but I've only seen this done when the table is short and they need to move someone over before playing the next hand. It would be unusual for this to happen at a full table.

My guess is the SB had the wrong amount in or an oversized chip in and the BB never posted, but everyone acted in the normal order.

And he always is the last to act post flop. At least in every poker game I've ever played.

No, SB is the first to act post flop (the SB is the first seat to the left of the Dealer button) then the BB acts second.

The button is last to act. This is why it's the most advantageous position in poker.
