Re: AC need not worry about Philly/PA casinos

KD you beat me to it about the 3-card poker. The Parx isn't one of the closest new casinos(maybe the 5th closest) to my house but I'm still sad that they are going to have ZERO live poker at this location.

I use to go to Philly Park before they had slot machines and it is a really nice RaceTrack and a cool place to hang out on a Saturday afternoon.

Re: AC need not worry about Philly/PA casinos

I suppose we can count out daily tourneys in most of the proposed 12 table poker rooms at least initially? I can't see them having any tourneys on 12 tables especially during the weekend when they'll likely have most of them filled with 1/2NL, 2/4LHE, & possible some 2/5NLHE.

There was an article is the Philadelphia Inquirer this week that stated PARX is moving forward with their plans to out a large poker room in the grandstands, with target opening date of Sept 1, 10. It also seems to make sense that poker was separate from the original proposal of banking games, as there were issues published regarding protests by horsemen, regarding the upkeep of facilities. So separating the opening from other table games makes sense. Finally, there are countless poker specific job postings published for Parx. I think this may actually become reality.... assuming the inquirer was well informed for their article.

PARX is going to have the largest poker room in Philly. We just have to be patient. It's not in the original table breakout but it's coming. Sept, or Oct. Once this room comes on line it will hurt the Borgata. My home is 10 minutes from PARX. 1.5 hours to Borgata. I love the Borgata, but if PARX rocks that will be my room, and my wife will be accompany me to almost every session. I'll make more at poker than she loses at slots.

that is all

Try this. It worked for me.
Get her interested in poker tourneys (start with a Ladies Event) assuming Parx offers it.
My wife has done well in tourneys BUT, more importantly, getting her away from the slots saves me thousands of dollars a year.

Looks like SugarHouse's initial plans do not include poker. No word on whether or not poker will be included in future expansions.

From what I can gather the construction at Mohegan will be done in the next few weeks (possibly this week or next). Then there is a state inspection. Once the state tells them they have passed they can open. The management is obsessed with making sure they can hold the marketing position as "Pennsylvania's First Casino" so I'm sure they will do all they can to be first.

Yes indeed, I'm hoping to be playing at Harrahs Chester in July then moving up to Parx once the monster poker room opens. I think Parx is going to be the Borgata of Philadelphia.

Re: AC need not worry about Philly/PA casinos

Yes AC will def take a hit from PA opening full fledge Casino's we are one of the if not the biggest states in the NE and there are A LOT of gamblers in PA. (Excluding 18-20yr olds) the NY Casino's will take a hit also as a lot of ppl in NEPA go to them now.

The only think that will bring PA players to AC is the Free Alcohol/ Beach in the Summer and The Major Tourney's (if we don't get them).

When PA opened there Slot parlors AC took a major hit and can barely fill buss trips anymore so now the local Casino's are getting the senior citizens SS checks and not AC.

I'm really hoping that Parx is going to be on the same level as Borgata.

I'll be seriously bummed if it's a 1/2-2/5 NL, 2/4-3/6 LHE only room.

So what's the deal with Heinekens in Pennsylvania? Will I be able to go to Harrah's Chester and drink free Heinekens while playing 1/2?

No Booze is not free in PA Casino's. Which really sucks I like to drink for free when I'm giving my money to a casino. I know Liquor in PA is run by the state. I'm not sure why beer isn't free but its not.

All drinks are comped at the Sands. Initially the law didnt allow PA casinos to comp alcohol but apparently that changed around the time Sands opened other PA casinos just didn't follow by their own choice. Im sure tables will change that soon enough.

I wasn't aware of this change thanks for the info.

I'm very happy about this even through the PARX is going to be about the 6th closest card room to my house. Philly Park is a awesome racetrack as well and it sounds like the views will be great from the poker room. Not sure they'll knock out the Borgata but I believe between Delaware and Pennsylvania I'm sure it is going to leave a mark. 20 to 50 percent decline at the Borgata's card room is my prediction.

The WV casinos don't offer free drinks, and neither do many in the NY area. My guess is that the PA casinos will continue to charge whatever they can, and they'll also push the rakes to the max. Eventually we might see a few rooms try to make themselves be more attractive, but I'm not hopeful in the short term.
