Was putting together a list of the top 5 tournaments I want to attend and participate within the next 3 years and cross off my bucket list and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations apart from the WSOP in Vegas every year?
Play in one of the low buyin, high guarantee tournaments at the WSOP as well. If you win it, you can say you won in a tournament with 1000s of players.
What buy-in size are you looking for? I think tournament directors are really putting in a good effort these days to keep the Players happy. Tournaments are a double edged sword for sure ... You want to have all the makings of a good tournament, but if you bust you want to be in a nice place to, eh? But if you run well, it doesn't matter where you are since you will be busy playing the whole time ...
Here's one for you that 'should' peak your interest ... $1100 MSPT 'Poker Bowl' at Venetian. This tournament is Super Bowl weekend and why not be in Vegas for the Super Bowl?
What's nice about this tournament is that you finish up (Day 2) on Saturday, not Sunday like 'normal'. This will allow you to enjoy the Super Bowl no matter how well you run in the tournament. It generated an $800K prize pool last year with only 2 Day 1s. You can fire 2 bullets per day as well if you are rolled for it.
You may want to consider trying a tournament from each of the major tours? WSOP, WSOPc, WPT, EPT, MSPT, HPT, WPT deepstacks ...
Oh, here's one ... the Poker Stars event at Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas. This is usually in January. There is an $1100 event, but also $10K, $25K and $100K events. This is a great spot to see poker 'stars' in person at a sunny resort in the middle of winter. The only issue is I don't think they run much cash at this casino, or at least they didn't have 'daily' poker when I was there a few years ago. Perhaps they do run lots of cash, but just during this event.
Go where you want to visit, tournament are getting fairly consistent these days so pick venues that just happen to have buy ins you can handle. GL
