On the river I tell my opponent "Don't bet 420." He bets 425. Is this a tell?

He simply added a nickle bag. Nothing to see here, move along.

I was able to read into it and make a good hero decision based on it. Perhaps Mr. Elwood can explain it to you better than I.

you might just be on to something considering "mr elwood" has played a bunch in the clubs around portland where 420 and poker are synonomous

Very little info, but if the player did in fact bet 420 he is probably stronger than average. The reason is because he isn't too concerned with pissing you off. If he was bluffing, he would try to avoid upsetting you in any way.

Previously in the same positions, villain had raised to 40, I 3b to 100, he 4b to 260. We checked down and he won with 97o. In that hand I had asked if he meant to set me up for a click it back to 420.

4 handed, 2-5 with a straddle for 10 on the button.

Villain limps, BB folds, hero raises to 50, btn folds, villain raises to 200.
Flop (415) : 9 5 4
villain 220, hero calls
Turn (855) : 3
check, check
River (855) : 9
Villain is about to bet 420. I say "don't bet 420". He bets 425.

Absolutely this.

How deep are you guys? How often he has an over pair that checks the turn goes up a lot if you guys are really deep, and would make me inclined to read into the 425 bet as an over pair bet trying to do something goofy to get paid off. I would still often call him light after the 97o hand though.

To get away from the strategy part of the hand though, betting 425 as a response to your request is kinda playful/relaxed (value tell), but at the same time it's conciliatory and friendly (bluffing tell). I'm curious as to what your thoughts are.

On the river he has about 300 behind his bet
I thought he went 425 instead of 415 as a barrier to calling
