$100 Tournaments are NOT PROFITABLE....for the PLAYERS.

When you buy-in to a $120 Multi-table tournament only $95 goes to the prize pool. So you need to win $25 to get back the amount you bought in for. Thus, you need a 26% Return on Investment to win ZERO! That's right, if you have a 26% ROI, you win zero. Your $95 has to go back up to $120 to win zilch.

$120 buy-in tournaments at casinos are for stooges. If you play poker to make money, you should never play these.

People play those to have fun because they like the game of poker. They pay $25 in rake for a couple of hours of entertainment.

Meh more rake is better sometimes so w super soft fields I can see it still being above 26% roi.

Have you played these events the players are worse than bad 1-2 players

They are for me. Daily tournament fields are so soft. But they can be a little streaky.

I would argue that a competent player could handily beat fields of $100 tournament players for more than 26%. Those players are the worst of the worst.

Also you can late reg ICM back some of the 26%

A competent player in 100$ dailies would likely have an ROI of 100%+ even with the ridiculous rake. The field's are 80% fish, at least here in vegas.

ya the ROI on these tournaments for decent players is easily over 100%. still works out to like 10$ an hour though since u play like an average of 5hrs so 190-120=70/5 = 14$/hr.

as for late reg u miss a lot of value people punt stacks early and a lot of weak players dont make it very long. I doubt people make 100% roi registering with 10bb but idk hard to really tell true roi never going to get the volume to see

They are a big waste of time. You'd be much better off inviting people to your house to play single table tournaments.

You can say the same thing about going to a bar, the movies or a sporting event.

Going to a casino to play cards is fun. That I make a small amount of money doing it is a bonus. I can only imagine how soul-sucking it is to worry about my ROI while playing cards.

This is true. People like to play them and have fun in them and they can be beaten as many people that play them are very bad. Obviously if you are trying to be a pro then they are a crazy grind and you can make more money elsewhere.

Theres a difference between not profitable and a waste of time.

100% ROI is not out of the question at all for these but thats still only $15-20 per hr depending on how long they last.

If you are a trying to make a living... then there is definitely a better $/hr way to spend your time. But thats also why they are so soft, because they are mostly recs. So they are great for recs who are looking to play cards for a few hrs and enjoy themselves.

And when a rec binks one and takes a shot at a higher buy in MTT or cash games, and then its good for everyone.

I'm pretty sure if I were a retiree in Vegas, I could make $10-20k/year just playing the dailies at the Orleans.

Agreed, like others have said, the hourly won't come out to be huge, but those tournies are so soft, if you wanna have fun + make some cash those are great

Yea not sure I agree with not being profitable. It’s not ideal
To pay the rake, but I feel most $100 tournies- they get a ton of recs that never play poker / bad players. I feel if you know proper shove/ fold charts and can think about icm when in the money, you def can profit from daily mtts.

However I feel the variance could be gross bc the structures are so terrible and the play is non existent at the end. Idk, but I find average stack size of 5-20
Bbs to be very boring and super simple. It’s kinda boring to sit and fold when you have a 6-8 bb stack and just wait for a shove spot.

The ends of those tourneys do be annoying with everyone waiting to shove, cuz bbs are so minuscule

Otherwise you’d have a two day event where first place pays for your overnight stay in a fancy hotel room..

Almost like it's a good spot to pick up dead money.
