Talking myself into semi-bluffing/calling Talking myself into semi-bluffing/calling

Hey everyone,

I'm playing 2NL at PS as a low-volume recreational player.

THE biggest leak in my game is that, for some reason, I talk myself into calling or semi-bluffing, although I know that I will either be behind or get called very light.

I know rationally that these are bad decisions, and I know that I should play a lot more value-oriented at the micro's, but during sessions for some reason I trap myself into thinking that my opponents will exploit me when I tighten up. It's freakin' ridiculous but my mind/concentration is simply not strong enough yet.

Any tips?

P.S. Repeating motto's like "Don't bluff at the micro's" isn't effective for me. I have the knowledge, I'm just very bad in execution.

You have a habitual pattern that you wish to break. The mind itself is a habitual machine and so you have two options:

1) To form another overriding habit to one you have: the urge to bet semi-bluffs and the urge to call. The best way to form a new habit is of course repetition.

2) To catch yourself each time you are going to go down one of these habitual thought streams.

The second is more difficult but of far greater overall value.

It's more difficult because it requires a stepping out of auto-piloting decisions when you play and instead playing with awareness.

First step would be realizing that you're supposed to play the player instead of playing a fixed strat.
If opponents call light reduce your bluff rate. If players overfold raise your bluff frequency. Making an effort to actively adjust to table dynamics should plug that leak quite a bit.
