This is probably a question better aimed at a psychologist or something, but I have a terrible problem with tilt. I can grind along turning a modest profit, possibly for a month or two, sometimes longer. Then in one single day, I will give it all back and then some. I can't get myself to stop.

The problem is that on previous occasions I will be down, but I will fight through, win back my loses and either post a profit or a modest loss. But on this one day it will get away from me. Suddenly I will be down an enormous amount and I won't be able to stop until my bankroll is crushed and I am forced to move to significantly lower stakes.

How can I tell when its okay to push through and win back my losses, versus when I'm on tilt and need to quit even though I'm down huge?

The problem for me is that I feel like I'm handling my tilt well for long periods of time and then, without warning, I'll have a crushingly bad tilt session and months of work are gone.

Any suggestions? Are there other threads I should look at?

For me a good method is to just avoid the possibility of tilt altogether by having a set amount of time, or hands or whatever for a session and sticking to that.
That also helps you to learn how to end a session down money which is hard for a lot of people to do (myself included) and often leads to tilt.

just go to a hu plo table cause playing aggro on tilt is a hell of a play to play hu plo, you can get that **** in suck out and be even in no time.

Stop Loss might help. Down 3-4BI's quit no matter what. Good players grind through swings in a single session but if you are having huge problems with tilt it is more EV to quit no matter how good the game is if you are down 3-4BIs or whatever is comfortable..If it was real bad I'd quit everytime I was down 3BI's for at least an hour..

Also quit when you know you are steaming everytime, not just a really bad time.

Use proper bankroll management especially with tilt control problems. If you still have this problem even with using proper brm, then you should double your brm so that you need to have twice the buyins (or possibly more). If that doesn't work, you probably need to find another hobby/interest.
