I find it uncomfortable to sit down and study. I just read a bridge book (not poker) for about 1 hour and it felt like work. same happens with poker. I feel uncomfortable watching, listening, reading books on poker.

I want to be a good poker/bridge player but i think i have to get uncomfortable
doing it. Its going to take a load of work.

atm im listening to music. its a distraction. i dont wanna go back and read more and write **** down. but in order to get better i have too.

anyone else agree/disagree with me? your thoughts?

I also get the same feeling while playing. it could happen 2 hours into a tournament or 30 mins into a cash game. or when i get knocked out of a tourny i dont feel like playing anymore.

i gotta play to get better whether i like it or not. is that a mental muscle you build up over time?

No. If you just like to sit down and play cards, but don't find the nuts and bolts of the game, or the theories of what make a good play or player interesting, then poker isn't for you.

There are too many players that do enjoy studying the math, psychology and philosophy behind poker, for people who don't do this to be sucessful.

If you don't enjoy this aspect, you will never reach their level, no matter how many hours you put in at the table.

Hi Elrazor:

I agree completely (and the bolding is mine). Furthermore, I think this is true for most every successful person. They're not out there setting goals such as I'll study 2 hours a day. What happens is that they find something they like, such as studying and playing poker, and the work that's required to become good doesn't seem like work at all. So as you say "If you don't enjoy this aspect, you will never reach their level, no matter how many hours you put in at the table."

Best wishes,
Mason

During a tourney, rarely, as when I am in, I am in. Before, sure, and at some point (tired), sure.

I feel it most interesting to study when I don't more or less master the math of the game yet, and whatever else there is, but after I am done and could write it on a page, so to say (close), I find it hard to read anything anymore and feel most frustrated of all the books out there and coming, as it is worse than blank pages and kind of a crime.

If you are not interested of study nor play, don't play, but when interested. If interested of play but not study, you have to study also.

For talking about the superiority of study, that's boloney, but when you haven't done it yet. This game is mostly about play.
