What is the ego?/ How is it created?

To go into this for yourself will be of far greater value than any resource. It will be of far greater value than anyone telling you a system or solution to "solve" this issue.

PS I have recorded a short podcast on this topic that I will be releasing on losingstress.com later this week. You may find this useful.

Re: Resources / books on getting rid of entitlement / ego?

I will be paying close attention to this thread. My ego problems are somewhat severe -- I fantasize about accomplishing great things while bypassing the required steps to get there. But I also have extreme lows where I feel worthless to Earth, so the fantasy ends up being a coping mechanism...problem being that it works.

I'm also lazy. Only in my 30s did I start doing basic life tasks like caring about having a clean room. It feels like my mindset has been a big, silly waste. I've even had life events that should have humbled me but that didn't really happen. I'm afraid that I'll end up fully isolated and live a horrible life -- I don't know if that's tangentially related to ego.

I think a lot of popular psychology is stupid guesswork. Is that ego, or rationale? Happy to contribute to this thread anyway I can.

Sometimes when I've had 4-5 live poker winning sessions in a row, or a monster session...

---when i sit down for the *next* new session, if I'm at a table full of bad players, I play too many hands, and get fancy, almost dumb my play down to their level. 30 mins go buy and I've just spewed 1/2 a buy in for no reason at all.

I believe this has to deal with my ego and knowing i am better than them, but for some reason my fundamentals and solid play go out the window.

You already know the issue. Surely being aware of this in the moment rather than auto-piloting is where the solution lies.

Encouraging awareness before you play could be of real benefit - http://losingstress.com/2019/01/29/w...ed-by-science/

You need to implement "hacks" to help you stop the behaviors resulting from your entitlement tilt. Use reminders on your phone, write stuff on your hands, recite and repeat key messages in your head, etc.

I heard a great comment with respect to entitlement tilt on a podcast recently: they call your first two cards in Holdem "starting hands" because they are just a start. You can't expect to win any hand based on those two cards.
