i believe that tilt derives from your subconscious mind I've only learn this recently so idk much about this and i need some guidance, it seems that long before we even begin to sit down at a table to play poker we're already carrying emotional baggage and I've read this a lot in books that if we've been having a bad day at the office or at home we carry this on to the poker table & it's sitting next to use as we play. So my question is how can we reprogram our minds to let's say have a different view on loosing or on money when as children we always had temper tantrums when things didn't go our way or change our out look on money when we grew up with our parents drilling this into our minds that we must work hard to obtain money keep a good job and that in some cases money is the root to all evil?? I normally post hands on these forums but I'm looking to grow as a poker player & human so i can obtain my goals in life which are to be financially independent and travel to play various tourneys thank you gain for you 5 cents GG

The much more relevant question, when you've really observed and gone into this for yourself is why do human beings want to be programmed at all?

This is a complex thing to go into because it requires a deep delve into how the human mind actually works.

What you are describing at the start of your post is clearly and observably true when it comes to playing poker:

Poker is played within the context of your life.

If things are going well for you say poker results wise and in life in general (for e.g. you just entered into a exciting new relationship) then our minds tend to deal or react to losing in a more favourable fashion.

So what is going on here?

The human mind is always recording. And our memories are intrinsically linked to emotional responses of pleasure and pain.

This is a brief description and to be honest deserves a complete understanding by observing this in action in the moment.

What I can recommend is to take a look at the Losing Stress Podcast. Which is a podcast series I'm releasing going into topics related to the human mind.

In my case i would want to reprogram my mind because my life is not what i would have imagined it would be at the age of 28 and i guess for a lot of other people who would want to reprogram their mind the response would be similar it's not just that my life is ****ty "oh i lost my roll what am i gonna do now??" No it's much bigger than that, I've been through that i can always build my roll up again anytime and it's not that I'm having a bad day or bad week it's me looking at my life and thinking about how i've lived my life. If i would've had a totally completely different mindset I'm not gonna say I'll be rich but I'll be much healthier & much wealthier which in turn would have allowed me to give back in society rather than have to stress about where my life went why did i destroy great relationships & so on. Thanks i got the link and will listen to them when i work out in the am

First thing to do if you want to change psychologically, is to try and learn/understand who you really are and what (preset way's) makes you tick.

Start by reading "Psychological Types" from Jung and try to find out what type you are. Be aware, it may take many years before you will understand what type of person you are. That is the thing with being subjective, it doesnt alway's help, in fact, it rarely does.

You probably will find that it may not even be possible to change who you are psychologically. Especially if you want to bring psychological functions out of the unconscious into the conscious.

Once you know your type, then what?

Once you know your type and thus (maybe) understand basic psychology, you will understand that apart from repressing there is no way to "reprogram" your unconcsious.

It sounds simple, understanding what psychological type you are, but it really isnt. Most ppl will never get past their own subjectivity and will never understand which type they are.

Maxwell Maltz, "Psycho-Cybernetics".

I read the original text, don't know about the "updated" edition.

It's old, it's backward in some ways, but you might see yourself in it.

Just skip the last two fuzzy-thinking chapters, they contradict the stuff that works in the earlier chapters.

Can't hurt, might help.

If things at home, finances or relationships weren’t doing so good. It never felt right playing poker for me.

Attitude is everything. No person is immune to tilt, it’s how we deal with it.

I'd stay away from psychology BS, they don't understand the brain as they are much more behavior experts than actual brain science people. If you want to rewire your brain then you want to use neuroplastic training methods. You use meditation to put your brain into a plastic state so it is easier to rewire your brain as well as it's like taking an eraser to a chalk board when it comes to your emotions.

When you want to change your habitual emotional reactions you want to use affirmations or mantras that trigger the emotional response you want and use that just like a body building would use a dumbbell with reps, sets and such. Think of your emotional response as both programming but also as a muscle, you work the muscle it gets stronger and becomes the dominate force.

Find those negative emotional sticking points and give them a 180.

This is bigger than poker tho, this is a way to rewire all your mental habits and will be the future of mental health and addiction treatment.

Otoh, most people live long and fulfilling lives without even caring which type they are.

For those that do understand their type, what evidence is there of the benefits?

I've been listening to the audio book ofphsycocybernetic and so far i can't put it down, I've relearned that ego and the way you percieve urself contributes alot to ur success, this correlates to ur image at the poker table a lil bit because you can develop ur own image as soon as you sit down

Type is used a lot by therapists, so the benefits would be similar to the benefits of therapy (preferably used in conjunction). If you know your type, you can figure out the common pitfalls that people of that type fall into and can adjust behavior accordingly. To your point, though, it isn't always necessary if nothing maladaptive is occurring. If you aren't noticing any issues, then it may not be worth your while.
