Poker is tough

Just a random complaining about luck post.

I thought maybe typing it out, might help get out some of the
frustration.

Poker is so tough now though. I run so bad, its just hard to
overcome it all. Online pro's run like such gods. The gap is
insane. It scares me some. I seem to be able to grind it out.
But I dunno if I can keep going if it isn't closer to balance.

I have lots of issues.

1 issue is I can't watch other top players play or stream. They just run
too godly. Its so tilting. Like I have to earn everything so much, and they
get the biggest handouts in history. I had a bad 4 day stretch recently.
One of those days Jamie staples shows up on my table. I just know whats
about to happen. Sure enough he makes 2 full houses in 5 minutes, including a pretty bad cold deck with AQ vs AK on AK5A2 or something similar. I remember thinking I only made 1 full house the entire 4 days.
Just epic crazy ****. This happens when I watch them stream. They just
eviscerate the deck. I wanna watch and learn, but its hard for me to have a learning good attitude when they run like gods and leave me shaking my head wondering if poker is rigged.

2. My other issue is I can't really review my own play, on sites where tracking is still allowed. Everytime I go review some hands, and just see the sickness. I usually find some mistakes, but give myself a pass after seeing the sickness, just say to myself well how could you not tilt some. People are making more full houses than you are pairs.

Anyways, I'm just trying to accept it as much as I can. I know it won't change. Would be nice to get less angry about it. I meditate on it.
I wish I could win lose the exact same, but just in a different way. Like why does it have to be so gross all the time. Every satelite I win is so hard earned with players suriviving multiple all in's. Meanwhile the ones I lose
I'm all in, and out in 1 shot. Some of the sats I've lost have been insane.

I actually watched Jamie staples playing a sat on stream, and he talked about his worst ever sat miss, and how the one he was playing was approaching that. Now maybe I play more sats than him. But the sat he describes happens to me every week guarenteed. Not to mention my worst sat ever blows his out of the water 10 fold. Now it was also the smallest
one I've ever played $1 to win $5 thats it. So you wanna argue maybe I'm lucky on it, ok. All I know is I lost that satelite after 7 people survived shoves. 3 of them 3 way. 2 of them head up took out AA. And I'm sure 1 or 2 more were dominated hands. No clue the odds, just know its far far less than 1%.

Anyways, just venting. Covid will kill us all anyways gl.

Jaime Staples puts in a lot of work on his game. Probably more than you. The fact that you take an AK vs AQ example as him sunrunning shows that your understanding of variance needs work.

Stop making excuses, put in the work, and see what happens. Posts like these belong in BBV.

Dude, he made 2 full houses in 5 minutes. You have any idea how impossible that is lol

Hi fastlerner:

I cover this precise thing in my book Real Poker Psychology. The reality is that he only made one full house and not two. That's because if you play long enough the probability that you'll make a full house is 1. Then if you start counting, you've only made one full house. Notice that this is much different from picking a five-minute interval ahead of time and seeing how many full houses you'll make.

This is just one example of how games like poker, which are based on probability theory can seem counterintuitive to many players and cause mental issues unless you understand that certain unusual events, such as making two full houses in five minutes, are not really happening as often as they seem.

Best wishes,
Mason

Re: Poker is tough

I wanted to post a party poker rigged post, but thought
it would just get taken down.

But man it seems pretty insane on that site.

I have a tough time believing its legit sometimes. I've lost so many
key pots in sats and tournies for decent money. Sick beats.
Somehow everyone who shoves like 7 big blinds has JJ plus.

Feels like the site is preventing me from taking a nice score.
I might try another site & see if its just me.

Any chance party is rigged ?

Re: Poker is tough

Party is one of my most profitable sites. The fish there are very easy to beat if you are a solid player.

It's far more likely that you are just not very good at poker. That, and it's easier for you to tell yourself poker is rigged than to actually put in the work it would take to get good.

I know that's not what you want to hear, but it's the truth. You've been on this site since 2008, if you haven't turned into a winning player by now, you most likely never will. You're 13-14 years into poker and you still believe the largest sites are rigged because dudes get 2 full houses.

It may be time to just consider poker a fun hobby and only risk what you know you're going to lose.

Re: Poker is tough

try playing cash, don't expect it to be any less sick but at least it has less variance than large field mtts

About 10 years ago I played a 50 table, $250 buy-in tournament and on the bubble, I was dealt AA on the button and then AA in the CO and flopped sets both times.

Was I running like a God? No.

If you think about it, you have had some really good runs of cards too.

Pay attention to Mason, he's not just trying to sell a book. He is trying to help you (well, and sell a book

Re: Poker is tough

You have the wrong expectations about this game.

This is the first thing you want to learn if you want to keep at it: not only two full houses in five minutes is a LIKELY thing, it is going to happen again. Many times over in fact.
