I have a problem of trying to be a perfectionist when i play. I wanna make the best decision range vs range i can in every spot, however my lack of deep theory makes this impossible (like even Sauce is unsure of stuff quite a bit haha).

The result of this is i constantly delete / reset my HEM2 database. I always review my hands i feel like i misplayed - mostly these are losing hands (ofc that's a problem i know bc winning hands can be played badly too).

I have recently read growth mindset my Carol Dwerke, and have tried really hard to embrace the style of thinking / learning, but i just can't make it stick.

Have any other 2+2 ers had this problem. I thought of some solutions such as not checking my results ? I know its hurting my progress and my learning + also i have less hands on my opponents. Any suggestions are welcome thanks

you can only play your best, perfection isn't a real thing in poker, even great players make really bad mistakes sometimes

just focus on progressing and keep working on your game and your style

I used to only record losing hands mainly and focus on mistakes and the trying to fix negative things but this was only hurting me bc you end up missing the spots where you win but could have won more or just got lucky and didn't really want to take responsibility for it

now I study any worthy of note, any hand that is interesting, and I can learn from , results indepent

Be aware of "perfectionist" thinking. The urges it brings and the thought streams it absorbs in and leads you down.

Logically and in hindsight (from you have described) you see the problem. The issue here is the habitual filter and response your mind is playing to these situations. Can you be aware of this? Can you be aware of how the mind applies a filter to every situation?

There is no perfect solution to what you describe. To go searching for a solution will only provide a partial answer based off other people's thoughts i.e. their cultural background. And it's only through one's own awareness that this is brought about. Awareness leads to real intelligence.

Why the hell would you delete your database?

maybe you can find a way to make it work to your advantage, i think always being dissatisfied is what drives some people to extraordinary things. i would keep your database, having that information is the only way your going to get closer to playing your best. as you know this game is about making decisions with imperfect information, the nature of the game is imperfect

I’ve done it in the past, as a perfectionist you become dissatisfied with the current results you have and the urge to restart everything and avoid those feelings attached to the poor results. It’s obviously ridiculous and they know this, which is why he’s here asking.

Unfortunately to OP this is a hard thing to get over and requires you to be become aware when these thoughts arise and not let them dictate your actions. They’re just thoughts, you have control. So much easier said than done. Baby steps, one inch at a time.

Perfectionism is not possible in a game of incomplete information in my opinion. Garrett A. says he makes mistakes all the time. Just learn from mistakes that's what I say.
