Listening to music while playing poker? - Page 2 - Psychology in Poker and Gambling

Music is motivational and cant be used when playing poker no matter what others have done, it being wrong and repetitive. I use tv, that keeps my head in balance as it cant handle constant silent grinding with so narrow stimulations until playing in live casino maybe. Real life sounds and the tv comes closest to that, combined to easy chair and laptop. Impossible full time if even half time otherwise for the head and emotions to tolerate. Music is a worse help and poker needs itself, not music, no no no, music doesnt cut it.

I definitely use music to help me stay focused and relaxed. Music has a really powerful ability to evoke an emotional response and I want to feel relaxed and happy so I pick music that makes me feel that way. I know a guy who swears he can only relax listening to metal and you know, music is weird so I believe him. Whatever works for you a I guess!

I used to listen to classical music while playing online but lately I just listen to ocean waves crashing on a beach and stuff.
I avoid adrenaline inducing music like a plaque, while playing.

It reduced my EV slightly when I played online. Poker requires quite a bit of focus at all times. You probably wouldn't study for the GRE with headphones on, as your study time would be less productive, and your test performance would dip. Why don't you think this distraction won't reduce your EV at the tables?

Music has helped me A LOT with relieving the stress while playing.
When I'm going trough a downswing or trying to move up I start to suffer from some big adrenaline rushes way too often while I'm grinding, probably because my mind is too worried about booking a winning session and all kinds of dumb stuff like that. Listening to the right music (for me it's post-rock) makes me forget a little bit about the things that are out of my control and focus on the hand I'm playing.

I find it kind of distracting. I never really listen to a full song and then I'm always looking for a new song to play and then I end up doing other things like surfing the internet or reading a text and it's like a snowball effect. I've noticed I have played much better when not listening to music and using my phone less overall.

I always listen to music while playing. But my playlist has only melodic tracks in it since vocals are highly distracting (i will never understand how people can listen to rap and stuff while trying to be on their peak performance).
Another thing i also love doing is putting in some dancing during the breaks, its always a good recipe to stay in a good mood and on top of that it keeps your body active which increases your concentration immensly.

Classical music, the right kind at least, will actually stimulate your mind into a state of better performance without putting you on tilt subconsciously in ways that you might not even be aware of. There's probably other non-classical music that would be fine as well.

I always listen to music while playing. It depends, but usually I like to listen instrumental music. For example some hip hop beats or classical music helps me focus better!

Yeah classical music is good.
Once I played a pub poker tournament and they put on acdc rock and I started to play more hands and felt I was on the edge a bit.
