How do I stay within my bankroll limits? I tend to do fine for a long time than find myself going to high limits and haven't done well with those. I set goals for myself, make excel sheets and graphs of progress, and then one day will just jump to buyins much higher than I should be playing, erasing a month's worth of profits in an hour or two.

Any suggestions?

This is a tough skill. Inherently, you just need really good discipline.

I am not sure how disciplined you are in other aspects of your life but improving your discipline with other things will improve your BRM. E.g. wake up consistently at a certain time and go to bed at the same time. Control your diet. Do physical exercise on routines etc etc.

Otherwise, set your poker goals to something different. A lot of people aspire to play high stakes and because of this goal they want to rush through all the stakes (with relatively small sample sizes) thus an aggressive BRM strategy.

However if you set yourself volume goals you will less likely want to jump up stakes rapidly. For example, do 100k at 25nl and then at the end of this challenge review your winrate and see if its viable to move up.

Its different for different people so I am not sure if this advice will directly help you

I think this is very good advice regarding BRM.

Thanks for the feedback. I have been pretty good with the diet and exercise as of late, but can definitely improve in setting a better schedule for myself - so I will try that.

Is this online? Most sites have some responsible gambling settings. On pokerstars you can set a max limit that you can later increase. On Unibet you can set a daily max loss.

It's normal to want to take a shot at higher stakes. You don't have to be fully rolled at the next level to take a shot at it. You just need assume that you are likely to lose and will still be bankrolled properly for your regular game if you lose, so you need to budget how much you are willing to take a shot with and stick to that loss limit.

If it only takes you an hour or two to blow through a month's profit, you are probably jumping up too high.
