Typical. Every time a player comes along with a style that doesn't conform to conventional by-the-book 2+2 dogma, the self-appointed arbiters of poker correctness circle the wagons and cluck their matronly tongues.

The 2+2 elite have declared that it's bad form to play above your bankroll. Shame on you! They've declared that it's not allowed to jump directly into the 100/200 game without first paying your dues by "learning the basics".

You make me sick, you so-called experts with your books and your little pot-odds sliderules and finicky "bankroll management" and precious "personal hygiene". You look down your noses at a true baller like HIV because he refuses to play by your artificial rules like "memorize what beats what" and "don't live in your Mom's basement" and "bathe at least once a week".

One day you will learn that there are many paths to poker greatness, and while you're satisfied to chip chip chip away at the mountain, guys like me and HIV aren't afraid to head straight for the summit - no compass, no blankets, no water, no map, no rope, no gloves, just raw ambition, gut-level intuition, and solid gold style. And while you're squirreling away your treasured "profits", we'll be laughing all the way to the bank machine.

you mention you deposited 750 dollars into Stars and the proceeded to play 30/60. Personally I think your entire post is spurious and a figment of you imagination. Have you ever thought about becoming a fiction novelist ?

You played $100/200 with a total roll of under 60 BB and wonder why things went wrong?

I have a very hard time believing any of this story is true, simply because the swings involved are so ridiculous.

If it's not just a fish story, then the player here needs more than just "you're an addicted gambler" talks. He really needs to learn how to play poker -- a major component of which is risk-management and playing only in situations which are appropriate to your bankroll. Beyond that, I simply don't believe that any player would achieve upswings like this without putting a lot of money on very bad play -- and this goes double if the player in question is only 18 years old.

Word to the wise, kid: every player thinks he's "ready to go pro" when he's running exceptionally well. But one of the things that separates a real pro from a lucky amateur is the ability to recognize the difference between merely running well and actually playing well. From what you've posted, you need to study up on this concept -- a lot. That, and bankroll management.

Anyway, I don't mean this as attacking or criticism, just an honest assessment (which I presume you were inviting by posting this). Best of luck to you, and I hope you're able to learn from this experience and build something positive out of it, wherever you go from here.

Good post. Easily the best response I've seen so far.

I was also kind of suprised no one was questioning his skill level, instead just focusing on BR.

1st thing I thought of after reading it was he was most likely playing (very)loose and hitting cards. That's usually the main reason for those types of swings. I also noticed the OP made no exception that this run could be do to his possibility of having a less than stellar game. Absense of that usually points to it. But then it's easier to blame the other 'fishes' that were beating him when the cards turned.

Re: I am tapped

Cross posted from the BBV thread. After my staking offer in this thread (he really should watch out for the white text), he PMed asking if I was serious. When I didn't reply, he followed up with this:

Then finally discovered the BBV thread:

Dude, you said you were going to quit poker, get a job and sort your life out. SO DO IT. This is what you said a few days ago:

Quote:
So, goodbye 2+2 forums, I will be removing you from my bookmarks...I will not be watching poker on TV, I will not be talking about poker with my friends, and I will not be playing.
Didn't you mean it? I don't usually reveal PMs but this stuff is important. You've owned up to the fact that you have a problem, which I applaud you for, now follow it through. Poker clearly creates more problems for you than it solves, and splashing around with other people's money isn't going to help you at all in the long term.

Re: I am tapped

Dude, not trying to kick a man when he's down, but it ain't just your BR mgmt skills. Your LAG game is horrendous. I didnt know you were iamhiv on 100/200 Stars, but your stats are buddy-list fodder. LAGgy enough to run over some lower-limit tables when you catch some cards, but most 1/2 players will clean you out 11 times out of 10.

Re: I am tapped

Damn...you ruined my day, thats for sure, don't feel like playing...

Look forward to your new life - away from poker. Honestly I don't think it's something for you. Hope that you never try poker for your own best. Be glad you had the strength to stop in time. Poker is not the meaning of life - family and friends are.

Take care

Re: I am tapped

Normally, I'm pretty sympathetic, but can't seem to muster any for someone willfully careening to yet another crash and burn.

Do feel bad for any unsuspecting person (friend or family member) who loans him money, unaware of what it is really going to be used for. Not a real good chance of getting their money back.
