Don't really understand this thread. You seem to be asking a question only you can answer. A question, in fact, that you really don't want an answer to. Yes, this is all there is. If this is all you want/are going to allow there to be. I have a lot of issues directly related to the op and opened this feeling great empathy but this thread is full of fail (and seemingly lots of self-pity) at the moment.

I'm kind of in the same boat. Past the point of wanting to make more money, and trying to find what makes me happy. I've been blessed to be financially secure for some time to come at only age 24, but im still highly anxious and depressed over life in general. I was making some headway this year in making the changes that will allow me to grow, and then my bestfriend passed away. A lot of people say this, but he really was like my brother.

Since then I've been in one of the worst funks of my life, where not only can I not figure out what I want to do with my life, but I've lost the motivation and inspiration to find it. Maybe its just the grieving process. In the end, I don't know if all the money I have now is my gift or my curse. If I didn't have it, my situation would be much more grave, but if I never made it, maybe I would be on a different path?

Dunno, just rambling.

Can't really relate to achieve great financial success young but when I went through a depressive period in my life it was because I felt like I didn't have many people to share my life with. Maybe expanding your social circle to various sub cultures can lead you to discovering new 'everests' to climb. I hear it's lonely being at the top (the 1%), so keep climbing new mountains.

thats probably the best advice ive read in this thread. thanks man.
the tough part is finding people in that social circle (adventure sports) that are my age and have the money/time to share with.

I know this might not be spot on as I missread your posts, but I posted this reply anyway:

I find this interesting because there is a group of people that really relates to this problem: Talkshow hosts.

They are used to be in the center of attention. This attention is giving them energy. This attention is giving them their desired adrenaline rush. Guess what happens if the show is cancelled? They get depressive. They are so used to this job and the attention that comes with. What other skills do they really have except entertaining people?

How can you find these people with the same interests in the right age group with enough money and time? Start an adventure club! Be the founder of something new. Draw these people to you. Set up dates and destinations with pricelists and programs.

im not really sure if/how that would work.

for example, i tend to go snowboarding or mountain biking for months at a time. this means the people i meet are people who i hang out for a few weeks, a few months tops and then we move on to never see each other again.

ive organised a snowboard trip once before with my longtime friends from home for 1 month which was a total headfuk. trying to get everyone to get time off at the same time, as well as trying to do something within everyones budget and satisfying everyone is almost impossible. i compromised on basically everything from where we rode, where we stayed, how long we could go for, when we rode etc etc.

noone will be able to just tag along with what i exactly want to do.

so i just realised i might as well, go alone and ride wherever i wanted, whenever for however long i want and just meet people along the way.

Since snowboarding is a major part, ever consider hiring a trainer and competing professionally?

You are obviously content with what you have achieved at your age, time to help others achieve what they haven't. But because you played poker for a living, I am just assuming, you have a sense of invidualism, which disallow you to do it. You said you are of Chinese descent, I don't know if you have heard of Lee Tien Ming, he is one of the most famous philosophers in Hong Kong, his book will certainly help you.

nah im terrible relative to anyone who is a pro. also im way too old already at 28, comps are being won by kids between 17-20 for the most part.

basically to be a pro, your parents need to live in the mountains and had to start you snowboarding at like 6.

also a ton of pros ive met are broke as hell. its a total pyramid, with shaun white, travis rice making millions and everyone else struggling to eat. 'pros' mostly get paid in free gear which they then sell because thats how poorly theyre paid.

also im not interested in competitions and tricks which is what pros get paid for. im into freeriding and backcountry stuff.

same story for mountain biking.

self centered definitely, i dont see anything hugely wrong with that.

disagree on being shallow because id dont judge people on their looks or wealth. this is obvious because i hang out with people from all walks of life, like ski bums, rich poker players, backpackers etc etc.
nor am i shallow in caring about owning material items or how i look. again comes back to backpacking and having experienced that lifestyle.

OP, realistically I don't think you exist in real life in this way. Too perfect not perfect to be true. The combination of shallowness and not shallowness don't make this believable. Guess you'll not confess, but it would be nice.

Thanks for creating this model itt anyway.

I agree. Perhaps this is someone who is having some fun with those who fall for his tall tales. Seems to have a "cool" answer for everthing.

Maybe get in touch with your family. It seems you are looking for attention and you have decided to get it from 2+2 forums. Did your parents give you enough tender loving care when you were growing up?

no, typical asian family = little affection shown towards each other.

what would getting in touch with my family achieve though? i have nothing in common with any of them.

Didn't happen. You would already have talked more about poker and not just snowboarding.

To get that kind of money from poker it has to be a really significant part of one's life. You would have talked about your upswings, how that made things possible, and your downswings, how they threatened your life style, and so on. You would have talked about if you play live or online and approximately how much.

Not easy to create a believeable character.

Your problem isn't from the money or from acheiveing things or w/e. It's just that you are bored and don't know what to do/what you like.

Lots of people are in a similiar situation, including myself.

To be honest, not sure what kind of advice to give since I wouldn't mind receiving some myself, but starting t hang-out more with friends and meeting new people, along with trying out new stuff with friends is probably a good path.

I kind of have a problem of wanting to do something all the way many hours a day, or barely doing it at all. This makes it kind of hard to find long-term things to enjoy.

About having broke friends -> Although I'm not "rich" by any means, poker has provided me with a lot of money for a student, and most of my friends are on student loans and can't afford to do any of the stuff I like (I'm also into extreme sports and motor-racing). Not sure what to do about this tbh. If I was a multi-millionaire with a lot of cash coming in I'd just pay for all my friends stuff but unfortunately that isn't the case.
