Hey guys,

I see a lot of topics on here in the line of "having trouble quitting when down" or "Having trouble managing tilt and quitting when tilting".

I'm kind of in an opposite situation.

I don't really tilt at the tables or at least not in a traditional sense.
Except from slight winning tilt (which is also pretty dangerous in it own right :P), I can get up and leave no problem.
Neither do I have trouble tilting over losses or going over a certain stop/loss I've set.
I don't care about a big downswing or a massive lost pot if I've at least played well enough.

The problem is, every time I get stacked from a bad play or lack of discipline, I walk away and need 2 weeks or more to recover.
Sometimes it's not even getting stacked, but just playing weak.
For instance last time I went on a 2 week recovery it was after session where I check folded on a couple of flops that I should have check raised all in, but just couldn't do it.

I just can't put the mistake behind me and can only start playing again once I've coped with it or rather than coped, having repressed the memory of it.
It's even come to a point where I feel physically sick (which does help with leaving the tables :P.), but also at home when I recall such spots.

I know it's irrational, everyone makes mistakes, but I just can't find a way to cope with it.

play weak on purpose at play money or 2nl online. or if you want to go and blow $500 on purpose over many hands. just raise your aces pf and lose half your stack when folding on the flop when you should bet.

get used to playing weak. your taking things too seriously.

I kind of get your point, but losing a buyin at 2nl by playing crap doesn't really have the same impact as losing a buyin at 2/5 or 5/10 live.
I know, you shouldn't see it as money, but you feel a lot more stupid blasting through 1k than $2 :P.

Treadmill for me, an hour on there after a session. No 2 weeks off needed.

When you play weak and get stacked you have the opportunity to learn.

I find it more annoying to play well and get stacked on a series of unlucky runouts when I got it in good each time, because there's just nothing I can do against variance.

Neither is a reason for tilt. In the first instance you got outplayed and it's a valuable chance for you to get better (because next time in this same situation it's gonna be you who is doing the stacking).
In the second case it's just bad lack but in the long run the play is still profitable.

Haha yeah those 2 recovery weeks i usually spend overanalising what went wrong and although I do learn from it it still feels counterproductive.
Maybe it's a form of perfomance anxiety, but I've never been to a psychiatrist in my life so I don't think I'kk be going into counceling for it :P.

For me this is a "nice" problem to solve because I've had the same thing happen to me. And I like it when I know I did something wrong, I know what it is and I know how I can improve. That's how you become a better player.

So next time you make a bad play and lose some chips, think about the hand and decide what it was that you did wrong. Then ask yourself what else you could have done and why (eg. I could have folded because this guy doesn't bluff enough). Next time you're in that spot you're going to do X.

It's still going to hurt to lose chips (just recently I lost 280bbs with KK vs AA where I think I should have folded my Kings, it was difficult to get over but I know that next time I will make the right decision). But when you know what you did wrong and it's something you have control over then I think this is a good lesson.

The best players make mistakes. Obviously we will make more than a few. We don't want to be complacent, but beating yourself up for 2 weeks isn't good either. Learn from it then let it go. One hand isn't going to make your poker career.
