Hot and Cold Seasons in Poker? Hot and Cold Seasons in Poker?

Hey guys, I've been playing poker on and off for over ten years. One glaring concern I have noticed in myself is I tend to do better or worse based on the time of year. Here are my winnings based on the season compared to my overall winnings-

Fall: -8%

Winter: -1%

Spring: 2%

Summer: 107%

I am trying to figure out why. In my summer months alone, I've made 5 figures with no outliers such as a big tournament win or a bad beat jackpot (my best night ever is only $1700+). In all other months combined, I'm a losing player! How is it possible for such a stark contrast? Some possibilities:

- Different types of players are playing in the summer months which is causing the games to be much easier.

- There is something psychological about me that causes me to play better in the summer months.

- Some other blind spot I am completely unaware of.

I wanted to take advantage of this forum to see if there is anyone else who has had a similar experience. If we are all winning at higher rates during the summer, then I can assume the games are easier in the summer months. I could prioritize playing more hours during the summer and train harder to be more successful outside of it. If that is not the case, I need to start assuming it's a psychological issue I have and start the process of figuring that out. Let me know, thanks!

I've found that the worse the weather, the better the games. However, player pools vary by region, room and/or type/buyin of the game.

Back in the '80s in LA (limit lowball), the season didn't matter, but the biggest game ($25/50) was by far the easiest game year-round.

I suspect that because of the variance you described (by season) that your game is one-dimensional and fits the summer crowd best. Personally, some people think I'm a nit, an OMC, or a LAG, depending on the game type they played with me in. In short, I vary my style according to the game I'm in.

Interesting. Any idea what is a "summer crowd?" Any suggestions on how to adjust outside of the summer?

Without knowing something about your player pool and specifics about your game, I couldn't say anything useful ... and this isn't the forum for that anyway.

I think this is more of a psychological moment. I often notice that my game and tactics of the game depend on my mood. Therefore, sometimes I cannot play for several weeks so as not to lose money.

Processing this has certainly helped. I took into consideration JayKon's idea of different types of players in different times of the year and whether or not my game was one dimensional and only effective against a certain type of player.

I also put in some hard work to figure out if there was a psychological thing going on.

The results- October 2021 was my best month ever with no outlier sessions or tournaments!
