LHE doesn't look dead to me, but it can get dull. It's more or like, what do you prefer, grinding lots of small edges by making sound decisions, or surfing the NL table, the ups-downs the crashes, and the drownings. There's really no other game like NL.

I'm playing on Global Poker now because of you. They only gave me $2 and 10,000 gold coins. IDK where this $30 per month comes from. PM me details I guess.

When you go to www.globalpoker.com, scroll down to the bottom and click "Sweeps Rules". When the page comes up search for "Global Poker Sweepstakes Credits". You're on your own from there .

The bottom line is that the main difference between a gambling site and a sweepstakes site is that for a sweepstakes site, THERE MUST BE NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. The fact that no purchase is necessary is the backbone of the legality of the site.

The challenge, then, becomes how do they generate revenue if they're essentially giving away free money. It is true that when they give you the $2, chances are you're going to give the $2 right back to them in rake within a couple hundred hands, so it's not like they're hemorrhaging (thank you Google Chrome spell checker!!!) money.

Having said that, there are $1/$2NL, $2/$4NL and $2/$4 PLO games running where the average pot is several hundred dollars and I'm fairly certain that not every single one of those people built up their rolls starting from the free $2. Those games are generating an insane amount of rake.

I don't know if you've heard of NLOP.com, but they're a 100% play-money site that has several real-money no-buy-in tournaments every week, and somehow they generate more than enough revenue to cover their operating costs, and they've been up and running for years. If *they* can stay in business, so can Global Poker as long as they're not stupid.

Was that everything you wanted to know and then some????

I tried shortstacking 1/2NL at Winstar - details of the session can be seen here:
http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/sh...&postcount=133

I moved over to LHE after 2 hours at NL and won back my losses and more. I felt like I played fairly well. I'm sure there's a hand here and a hand there I could have played better but for the most part when I felt I had an edge I pushed it and protected my chips when the odds were against me.

1. If you like NLHE or PLO and you live in the US, you should seriously check out that Global Poker site you've been seeing advertised in the banners. It's totally US-legal because you don't have to risk penny one of your own money - you can look under "Terms and Conditions" for their AMOE (alternate method of entry) and they will give you $30 per month of free money - you can either immediately cash it out or put it on the poker tables. The play is almost play-money soft.

2. I'm considering learning short-stacked NL. Since Global is so soft I've been using it to practice. Here's a thread with the discussions I've had with other live players:

3. One week from today I leave for the Poker Cruise. AAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH it's going to be the longest week of my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey man, was interested in that free 30 bucks from GP, but couldnt find the 'terms and conditions' on their page... been looking around for a while.

Had a frustrating night last night, both from a rungood perspective and a playgood perspective.

The table last night had to have been the softest 4/8LHE table I've ever sat in my life. Almost every hand has 5-handed to the flop, some 7, and I kid you not, I SAW MY FIRST 9-HANDED FAMILY POT!!!!!! I limped along with Q9s in the CO (seriously questioning if I should have raised), flop came J75r, I folded the flop, spiked a 9 on the river and I kid you not my Q9s would have won the *($#@(# hand!!!!

Earlier in the session I saw a hand where the flop came JT8r, three streets went bet/call, the better turned over 86 and the caller showed 33 and mucked.

There was a hand where I saw a free flop from the BB with ATo, flopped top pair, turned 2 pair and rivered a boat, and the CO showed me KK and mucked.

I just could not get a hand to hold up. I raise KK UTG and get 4 callers, J7o flops 2 pair and rivers a boat, I flop a set with 55 on an AT5r board only to see A4 runner-runner a wheel etc. And of course there's the raising AQo, KQs, AJs yada yada yada and missing the flop as much as it's mathematically possible to miss it.

There was a hand where I raised KQs on the button after 3 limpers, they all called, I flopped a Q-high monotone board not my suit, I bet, got 2 callers, mentally screamed NO MORE SPADES!!!! NO MORE SPADES!!!! And, as if the poker gods were deliberately giving me the finger, the turn gave me 2 pair but put a 4th spade on the board! Luckily for me, the villains both checked to me on both the turn and the river (I had been playing very aggressively and had gotten caught bluffing a couple times so I figured at least one of them was trying to trap me), and one of them turned over a spade.

You've all heard the sob stories I won't go too much into them.

After about 4 hours I went on entitlement tilt for a few hands and decided it was time to get up. That disappointed me far more than the runbad - I should know better by now, but once I'm at the table... you get the idea. I was on a streak where 8 of the last 10 times I played poker I got up with more than I sat down with and when I saw how soft the table was I just EXPECTED that to continue. Again, I should know better - much, much better. Again, far more disappointing that I keep making the same mistakes than that I couldn't get a hand to hold up.

Further bulletins as events warrant.

Meh, at least you got up noticing your tilt. Most people when they decide to tilt want to shut everything else out as much as possible.

I hope you're not one of those that "corrects" people's "mistakes" after the hand is over, and talk about how they should've done this, and give the mountains of advice. I hate that. Terrible for the game too. Makes everyone conscious about their decision. Those people who want to "spread good-play awareness" ought to go into politics or something else inconsequential.

No effing way. I'm super-polite at the table. When I raise KK and get called by a J7 that flops two pair and rivers a boat I smile and say, "WHOAH! What a hand!" I want to keep everyone having fun so they'll stay at the table and keep making those mistakes.

Oh good, maybe you can compile all this into a 1$ e-book after you start beating the game, which I think you can. Basically patience, pre-flop play, and even average flop/turn/river play is enough to beat it, and as long as you get-up before the entitlement tilt kicks in, you should be fine. Enjoying the blog.

It's always the very average players that get thrown-off by bad play enough to berate others over it.

Obviously I don't get to go to the casino very often, and it's really my only chance to play any LHE. Not sure when my next chance will be - probably not until mid- to late-July.

Still playing mostly PLO on Global Poker - love that site, so much fun. Winning too, and cashouts are lightning fast. I occasionally "practice" the NLHE shortstack strategy on 4 4NL or 10NL tables at once - gives me chances to be in situations without dying of boredom.

Had a $200 win tonight in 3 hours. Couldn't have run much better, essentially every hand I played I either nailed the flop and it held up or I got the card I needed to improve to win. I was up $230 at one point but then lost $30 in a hand where my AJs flopped TPTK and couldn't fold against QQ, and immediately got up so that I could book a $200 win. By the way, I *think* I said before that the wife and I have an agreement that I wouldn't tell her the result unless it was a $200 or higher win, and I would keep my lossrate below $8/hr (with this win my lifetime rate is now a $5/hr loss). I really wanted to be able to honestly tell her I won $200 so I stopped. Hopefully with that monkey off my back I'll be able to more confidently stay at tables where I have a significant skill advantage.

It wasn't a great night overall, results aside, because a) there was traffic, construction and accidents in both directions so I spent quite a bit more time driving than normal, and b) when I first sat down there was one of those jerks at the table who slammed the bad players who played trash hands and got lucky. He even insulted *me* for flopping a nut flush draw and betting it on the flop and turn like I had a made hand (it came in on the river). LUCKILY though, that table ended up breaking when 5 people got up and left in about a 30-minute span so I got to go to a table with far nicer people.

Looking forward to my next chance to go back.

I hardly play anymore. There's diminishing returns. I spend the vast majority of my time programming these days. Didn't mean to derail.

Fortunately at low limits you get to table change. I table-changed like crazy when I played low limits. Game selection will vastly improve your winnings at low limit especially, because there are more games available, and there's a higher likelyhood that one of them is a good table. I'd say that table selection can reasonably improve your winnings as much as .5BB, maybe more. If you don't pass on games, then significantly less.

Gl, hope this is the year for you to turn the corner Dal.

I'm absolutely demolishing uPLO on Global Poker and I'm not even a very good player. Make the nuts, pot the nuts, someone will call, GG. I might post a video of my PLO play for admonishment, that might be fun. I feel like I know what the next few holes in my game are and it would be interesting to see if more experienced PLO players agree.

I’m in northwest Arkansas on business. About 25 miles away was the Cherokee Siloam Springs casino so I went to check it out. It’s small, but nice. Poker room had 8 tables. Only 1 table was running at 6pm on a Wednesday night and I’m guessing THAT was running because a tournament was going to start at 7.

I bought in to the $1/$2NL game for $80, and on my second hand 2 seats from the button I got ace-ten of diamonds after 3 limpers. I raised to $15 and got 2 callers. The flop had two diamonds. I c-bet about 2/3 of the pot and got 1 caller. The turn was another diamond. I went all in and got called by a guy who called my $15 raise with king-3 of diamonds.

Not a bad start eh? MORE than doubling up on the second hand?

Disappointingly I only got to play for about an hour. Once the tournament started at 7pm the table basically broke and I don’t like to play 5-handed so I got up.

Played at the Cherokee casino again last night. Was exhausted and didn't take it seriously. Bought into the $1/2NL game for $100.

Called for $5 on the button after a live straddle and 2 callers with 87s, straddler checked, flopped 2 of my suit, called a $5 flop bet, turned a 7, called a $10 turn bet, whiffed the river and folded.

Called for $5 on the button after a raise and one other caller with JTo later, then when they both checked the flop I tried to bluff $10 at it and it didn't work (one of the villains flopped trips).

Raised KK UTG to $10 - whole table made a big deal about how "huge" my raise was, but 4 people called it! I was screaming "no ace no ace" inside my head, because I was going all-in on any flop that didn't have an ace, but wouldn't you know it, an ace flopped and I was done with the hand.

Opened A9o for $5 in the HJ, only the BB called, then the BB donked $10 into a JJ3 flop. Confused, I folded.

Down to about $50, I raised 88 to $10 in the HJ, got 3 callers, flopped AA5, went all in, unfortunately one of the villains did have an ace, but I two-outered him on the turn to double back up to my original $100 buyin.

A couple orbits later one of the fishier players at the table raises to $5 from UTG+1, one caller, I raise to $15 on the button with AKo, he 3-bets to $30 and I go all in, and he tanks, calls and flips over AA. Done for the night.

Had a delicious prime rib dinner in the casino's steakhouse though, and since I'm on business, I can expense it .

Pretty good chance I'll go back next Wednesday as well.
