Feeling good when winning? Feeling good when winning?

The consensus is to limit the negative impulses within us when faced with tilting situations, but what about the opposite?

Should we also strive to limit our positive emotions during winning sessions?

Personally, I would tend to think that the less swingy our mood, the better.
Being in a neutral state along with being (occasionally) happy when we play heightens overall mood.
But in order to master ourselves, should we not aspire to remove all emotion when playing?

Step 1: Remove frustration,
Step 2: Remove ecstasy,
Would you agree?

You should probably feel happy when you play well, but not because of a helpful river.

During the session I would try to stay focussed and 'leave the emotions at the door'. Doesn't always work, of course (when you find out you made a correct hero-fold or a plan pays off)...but I wouldn't start dancing at the table by any stretch of the imagination. Remember: someone else just lost (or won a lot less than they were hoping for) and they are feeling bad. No point in pissing them off by overly large displays of joy.

If you really want to party then you can do that after the game.
For me the level of 'ecstasy' then depends on how well I played and the strength of the opposition - not whether I won or lost or any kind of bad beats/luck runs.

For the first 3 years I played, I thought that when I won I was good, and then when I lost it was variance. Now I realize that my edge is limited and I understand how much poker is a gamble. I treat players much better and don't tilt as much. It's Dunning-Kroger, the less I knew the more i (mistakenly!) thought I knew.

I try to stay cognizant of the plays I make and if they were good or not. I have lost pots and felt confident in how I played them. I also have won pots where i got my money in bad and sucked out, won the pot but feel bad about it. I'm still pretty green to the game as I dont have many hours but I try to approach it in this way...

I honestly get a rush just from playing well. It's hard to play well and it's very easy to play poorly. So playing well is an achievement in itself.

Thankfully, playing well is generally rewarded in the medium and long term.

If you're both winning and playing well, it's perfectly reasonable to appreciate it.
