Hello, ive been thinking since a friend of mine is just beginning in poker and naturally complains a lot about RNG and EV. (even tho he is 35+ stacks over EV over 100k hand lol)
When i played years ago, i probably seen literally thousands of graphs, maybe low 5 digits. Most of them of winning players in forums like these and the vast majority under EV.
Myself, i think over several 100k hands, maybe million+ was never 10 stacks over EV... at least i remember it that way.

Now, is it all self selection of the people posting their graphs and my selective memory or is there actually anything math related to the idea, that being a winning player somehow makes it way more likely to run under EV?
Im not implying any conspiracy theories either.

Yes, it's purely self-selection bias. Some players feel compelled to post below-EV graphs to seek sympathy for their bad luck; some are discouraged from posting above-EV graphs because they don't want to make fellow players envious.

In a way, there is some logic in assuming that people who run a lot over EV are more likely to have made worse decisions.

Imagine a player getting it in badly with 72o preflop, and winning 3 times in a row vs KK. This player is running insanely well.

Imagine a player getting it in good with AKs preflop, and winning 3 times in a row vs KK. He would be running well, but not as well as the other guy.

The bigger the mistakes, the more opportunities of running above EV.
