ego and gambling mindset

I've noticed a lot of gamblers that Tilt easily have similar habits - while those that don't tilt and chase as much do too. I might be wrong but this is just something I see in a lot of gamblers and wannabee professional gamblers.

For example...

Those that Tilt are naturally more Erratic types overall
Outspoken confident types tilt more than those that are quieter
Ego driven gamblers tilt more than those with less ego
Extroverts are more likely to tilt than Introverts

I seen someone talk about this and say, that one really needs to change their whole personality to be a pro gambler, do you agree with this or not?

Spoiler:

Re: ego and gambling mindset

Extroverts by defintion show their emotions, Introverts dont.

As such, how sure are you about your observation, given that the Introvert dont show his tilt?

Or in other words, what is tilt? For me it is any kind of negative psychological effect that leads me to play a hand worse than I could in a "neutral" state of mind. As such you can be sure Introverts can tilt just as much as Extroverts you just dont notice it that easily, because it looks different, but has the same effects long term.

On the other hand, there are also both Extrovert and Introvert with high lvls of tilt resistance. I doubt anyone is immune.

As for other personality traits: Just watch high-stakes players, youll notice there are Introverts and Extroverts and both can perform on the highest levels.

So no, you dont have to change your whole personality. Just always improve yourself as a whole towards being a better player. Keep in mind that the best players have done exactly that for many many years.

GL!

Re: ego and gambling mindset

Totally agree about the extroverts tilting. I have little ego in the game myself. I just want to make $$$. Winning is the main thing that motivates me. I think NL in particular is a far more difficult game to master than I originally thought. It's really lessened my ego. I had Dunning Kroger going on i think.

Re: ego and gambling mindset

I think none of you know what the actual definition of the word ego is.

"Men have been taught that the ego is the synonym of evil, and selflessness the ideal of virtue. But the creator is the egoist in the absolute sense, and the selfless man is the one who does not think, feel, judge or act. These are functions of the self.

The egoist in the absolute sense is not the man who sacrifices others. He is the man who stands above the need of using others in any manner. He does not function through them. He is not concerned with them in any primary matter. Not in his aim, not in his motive, not in his thinking, not in his desires, not in the source of his energy. He does not exist for any other man—and he asks no other man to exist for him."
--Ayn Rand

Ego isn't something that you want to control, limit, delete. Your ego is quite literally the self, to destroy it is literally to destroy the essential self that you are. It's not something that you are fighting against, and it's not the "false bravado" that you see in idiots like Hellmuth or Trump like the popular nonsense claims it to be. Exactly what those type of men don't possess is ego, because a blabbering lunatic shell is all a person can become when they choose not to use their rational faculty, i.e, the ego. Ego is literally the self, your conscious, rational mind. It's what must be carefully, continually, and ruthlessly developed and enhanced to become the best person you are capable of, and in this context, to become the best poker player you are capable of becoming.
